Zambia’s CAF Confederations Cup envoys Zanaco rallied from a goal down to beat league champions Zesco United 2 – 1 the international four club tournament which is being played in Ndola.
New signing Jesse Were (in picture) continued his perfect start to his career at Zesco when he scored his second in as many matches from the spot in the 51st minute.
However Zanaco equalized through Rodrick Kabwe from a set piece in the 64th minute.
Substitute Saith Sakala added another for Zanaco after a good run on the left by Augustine Mulenga with 10 minutes to play.
This was a second consecutive defeat for Zesco against Zanaco at their home ground after they were beaten at the same venue in the league.
In their early kick off, Azam FC of Tanzania ensured that they shot to the top of the round robin group in the tournament with a convincing 3 – 1 win over Chicken in of Zimbabwe.
Goals from John Bocco (31), a 54th minute penalty by Kipre Tchetche and an own goal from Chicken Inn were enough to seal maximum points for the Tanzanian giants after the two team ended the first half locked 1 – 1.
The teams return to the pitch for the final games on Wednesday 3rd February for the final two games of the tournament which will see Zanaco play Azam while tournament hosts play Chicken Inn.
