Zambia Super League duo of Chifundo Mpasi and Chawananga Kaonga came to the party as Malawi recorded their second win of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
ZANACO Striker Chawanonga Kaonga put Malawi in the lead just after six minutes with a fine finish after being set up by Kabwe Warriors’ winger Chifundo Mpasi.
The Flames doubled the lead eight minutes later as Big Bullets’ Lanjesi Nkhoma poked home from close range.
Malawi went to the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead and nothing to worry them from Sao Tome.
The visitors however pulled one back at the Bingu National Stadium in the 67th minute with a rare attack.
Mpasi who provided the first goal turned finisher 11 minutes after the Sao Tome goal as he restored the two goal cushion.
Malawi saw off the match to beat Sao Tome and Principe 3-1 and move to six points to move third in group H behind Namibia and leaders Tunisia.
Zanaco FC winger Robert Saizi started the match before being replaced by Patrick Mwaungula.
