With the Women’s World Cup just a couple of weeks away, Germany took on fellow participants Zambia in a friendly as the two teams prepare for the tournament.
It was a nearly full-strength squad from both sides, and a drama-filled, high-quality game was the result.
While Germany dominated possession of the ball, Zambia remained ever-threatening on the break.
After the halftime break Zambia made good on their threat, as Barbra Banda darted in behind before slotting home the visitors’ opener in style.
It quickly went from bad to worse for the Germans when Racheal Kundananji pounced on a loose-ball in the box to tuck in Zambia’s second in six minutes.
Germany created a flurry of chances to pull themselves back into the game, the best of which came from a direct free-kick from the edge of the box.
However, Carolin Simon lashed her effort off of the crossbar to spare the Zambian blushes.
A stoppage time set-piece routine saw Germany finally puncture their resolute visitors, and the turnaround was completed by Alexandra Popp just minutes later to seemingly rescue a draw for the hosts in dramatic fashion.
But the drama was not over there, as Barbra Banda silenced the home crowd in the 111th minute, snatching a winner on the break to complete a famous victory for Zambia.

The referee was Germany’s 12th player on the pitch but our girls had other plans for them. Congratulations 🎉 to the copper queens..

This was a sweet victory and it was more than just a friendly.
The ref added dubious 13 minutes trying to save German but alas it worked to our advantage.

We won the game yes but ball possession was bad .. couldn’t keep the ball . passes as well not up to the world cup participant standard

Refereeing was pathetic. The extra 13 minutes not even the previous world cup were given. German had more players the ref and her asists. The Zambian girls are the game at the world cup
Did you count and calculate the number of stoppages in that game with your watch or timer for you to know how much time should be added?

An Asian ref gave Zambia a terrible red card at the Olympics. Hoping g for some kindness this time arround.
Well done girls! However, you need to work on ball retention; do not rush passes.When you pass the ball be accurate. equally important, make calculated challenges in defence to avoid penalty calls against us. Otherwise you are accounting for yourselves well. Keep it up and more!!!!

Has Zambia won the world cup before? It is a shock because Germany has won the world cup a number of times while Zambia hasn’t we’re just beginners. Give respect where it’s due and earn your own.
