The Zambia Under-17 Men’s National Team get their COSAFA U17 Men’s Championship campaign started when they face Mozambique in a Group B opener at Bingu National Stadium in Malawi.
Kick-off at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe will be at 18h30 and the match will be live on COSAFA.tv and FIFA+.
After losing in the finals in both 2020 and 2021, Zambia will be hoping to break the barrier and win the trophy in the country that provided their last title in 2019, but they must first finish among the top two teams in the group to secure semi-final qualification before anything else.
The games, being played under the banner of Region V Games Lilongwe 2022, will see the finalists qualifying for the TotalEnergies U17 AFCON Algeria 2023 with Coach Ian Bakala declaring that team’s objectives at this tournament is to qualify for the continental extravaganza and winning the regional title.
With defending Champions Angola expelled from the tournament after some of the players failed the eligibility test, Zambia, like the remaining seven participants will be looking to winning the championship.
Bakala may start Anthony Matafwali or Shadreck Kalyati in goal with Chikuma Lweendo, Sekanji Siame, David Hamansenya and Taonga Mkandawire providing cover at the back. Skipper Aaron Phiri, Aaron Simpasa, Samson Malaya or Kelvin Phiri may be deployed in midfield with Emmanuel Mwanza a sure starter upfront.
In the 15h30 Group B kickoff, South Africa will entertain Seychelles at Bingu National Stadium.
