Zambian legends axed by Choma side… Chiyangi and Kilambe leave Eagles

Zambian Super League side Green Eagles have finally parted ways with head coach Aggrey Chiyangi and his assistant Rotson Kilambe.

Chiyangi and assistant Kilambe’s contracts have been terminated by the club according to a statement available to the ZamFoot Crew.

The duo have been on administrative leave since 5th October.

With the two on a month-long leave, first assistant Alex Namazaba took charge of the team and will continue in his capacity until further notice.

“Green Eagles Football Club has officially terminated the contracts of head coach Aggrey Chiyangi and assistant Rotson Kilambe with immediate effect.

Mr. Chiyangi and his counterpart have been with the club from 2017 and 2019 respectively.

Interim head coach Mr. Alex Namazaba will continue in his capacity until further notice.

The Sponsors and GEFC management would like to thank Mr Chiyangi and Mr Chilambe for their services and wish them the very best in their future endeavors.”

The decision to send Chiyangi on administrative leave and eventually cut ties came after a string of poor results that were recorded in the first six games of the 2022/23 football season having finished third during the previous MTN Super League season.

Green Eagles were 14th on the log with 7 points when Chiyangi was sent on leave and are now seventh with 23 points, recorded five wins, a draw and three losses  in the nine games that Namazaba has been in charge.

Chiyangi is widely considered as one of the best coaches to have managed the Choma based side.

The Power Dynamos and Zambia legend has transformed the side into a top four team from a relegation fighting side.
