Zambia is set to play Gabon in a friendly match in September, the ZamFoot crew understands.
According to the Football House insiders, the friendly match could be announced on Friday morning at the press briefing as Chipolopolo Boys announces his squad to face the Brave Warriors of Namibia.
“The friendly match will be played after the AFCON qualifier against Namibia,” the ZamFoot Crew insider said.
“Its almost a done deal. We are waiting for the final details to be ironed out.
Should the friendly match be sealed then, it will be the third time the two countries will come head to head in the last four years.
Exactly four years ago, Zambia hosted Gabon in an 18h00 Kickoff at Heroes Stadium.
It was the first international match played at the venue which was almost named ‘Gabon Disaster’ Stadium.
The second meeting was in June 2017 as then coach Wedson Nyirenda named a locally based side which included the likes of Brian Mwila, Jack Chirwa, Ziyo Tembo and Collins Sikombe.
The two countries played out to a goalless stalemate in Libreville. A week later Zambia suffered a home defeat to Mozambique in the African Cup of Nations qualifier on match day 1.
Zambia and Gabon last played each other in competitive tie at the Angola 2010 African Cup of Nations but it’s 1995 clash in the South Africa 1996 African Cup of Nations qualifier that is still fresh for many Chipolopolo faith.
The return tie at Independence Stadium in 1995 saw Zambia win 1-0 thanks to a Kalusha Bwalya late goal.
‘Great Kalu’ rounded off a cluster of defenders before he unleashed a low drive from the edge of the penalty box as he scored another late goal.

Zamfoot kindly do more research, the last time Zambia and Gabon met in a competitive match can not be “1995” i can easily cite afcon 2010 in angola where Zambia beat a Daniel Cousin led Gabon 2-1 thanks to Jacob & Chamanga
What a Dynamite you’re cracking up history.
Zambia and Gabon were in the same group in the 2010 Afcon in Angola. Others were Cameroon and Tunisia.
