Walking the path of your father – The story of Harry Milanzi Jnr

With great power comes great responsibility, Well in football it is usually with a great surname comes great responsibility.

As a son of a former Nchanga Rangers, CD 1º de Agosto, Kabuscorp SC, Progresso do Sambizanga, NAPSA Stars, and Zambia national team player, your career will constantly come with trying to prove your worth and maybe a little comparison to the man who came before you.

His father was a household name among Nchanga Rangers faithful as he was likened to bulldozer. He also played professional football in Mexico for Correcaminos UAT Fc and Real Zamora, South Africa with Abafana Bes’thende, Golden Arrows after which he passed through Angola to play for primero de Agosto,Kabuscorp S.C.P, C.R Caala, and Progresso FC en route to his retirement back home with the pensioners NAPSA Stars before taking up coaching.

Harry Milanzi Jnr was born on 8th June 2000 at the University teaching hospital when his father was leading the Chipolopolo strike force scoring and scoring goals, few as thy maybe but most memorable was the 25th-minute strike against a strong Mali side during the 2006 world qualifiers match who had the likes of Fred Kanoute in their ranks, a game which ended 1-1 away in Mali.

Milazi Jnr is the firstborn in the family of seven, and first established his football career at amateur side young Nkwazi where he spent 3 years before moving to Young Green Buffaloes in 2017 where he became a formidable speed winger attracting lots of interest from several teams including former Super League champions, City of Lusaka who came for his signature two years later.

Due to his brilliant ability, he was summoned to play for the Zambia U-17 team during the AFCON qualifiers for the 2015 tournament in Niger.

The ZamFoot Crew was at MTN Stadium in Woodlands, Lusaka to have a discussion and of course have an insight as to what the future holds for the enterprising lad.

Milanzi like many other sons of footballers and former football players looks up to his father as his role model.

“It’s good to have a role model because they act as a mirror and catalyst, I have my dad who is a former great footballer who has been there for me whom I want to emulate so that I become like him in the sport of football,” Milanzi Jnr told the ZamFoot Crew in an exclusive interview.

He has been on the books of City of Lusaka who is campaigning in the EDEN-sponsored FAZ national league for two seasons now.

Cite ya Moto as they fondly referred to, are occupying the 6th position from 30 games played so far and they are two points away from MTN/FAZ super league qualification spot with four games remaining to play and Harry Milanzi Jr is hopeful of making it to the top flight of Zambian football. He has set his sights not only on playing in the Zambian super league but also outside the country.

“I want to be like my father Harry Milanzi Sr who has played in many different countries, I want to play professional football but currently am focusing on my team city of Lusaka because I plan to take the team to the super league but that, of course, is through teamwork and coordination,” he said.

Every player would want to create memories that can be remembered and shared with future generations by being in the history books with some good moments. When the ZamFoot Crew asked the mercurial winger what his best moment is so far during the football journey, he had this to say: My best moment was when I played in the ABSA cup in 2018 when I was with young Green Buffaloes, I played a big role for the team during the tournament as we reached the finals which we lost to Nkana, you know it’s not easy to defy all odds by beating super league teams to the final spot.”

Harry Milanzi junior is a fast-paced winger with a lot of intelligence when on the ball and has racked up five assists and one goal from the right-wing position (in a traditional number 7 role) in the 2020/2021 FAZ/EDEN University National league.
