U23 to camp in Europe ahead of Senegal games

The Football Association of Zambia FAZ is contemplating camping the under-23 national team in Europe ahead of the 2015 Senegal Africa Under-23 Championship in Senegal.

Club licensing manager Erick Mwanza said the qualifying the team to the Olympics was top priority for the Association.

“We are exploring all possibilities and one of them is to camp the team outside the country preferably in Europe.

Qualifying the team for the Olympics is one thing we are taking very seriously and we are confident we will achieve that,” he said

Mwanza said the association would have loved to camp the team early but the exercise will delay because the league is in progress.

“If you look at the under-23 national team, it consists mostly of local players and then our league is in full flight right now. If we take some players and send them for camping, it will disadvantage some teams,” he said.

  1. FAZ should however have thought of camping the team in North Africa, preferably Morocco or Algeria which are close to Senegal. They could also play North African clubs. Just my opinion.

  2. It was a tough game against a very good opponent ( Ivory Coast ) But this is a very and talented football players. Players like Benson Sakala, Jack Chirwa, Boyd Mkandawire and Ben Chepeshi should be starters in the senior Naional team

  3. THAT’S A GOOD PLAN BA FAZ REMEMBER WE QUALIFIED TO U2O AND U17 AFRICA CUPS LACK GOOD PREPS WE WERE KNOCKED OUT IN FIRST ROUND

  4. it wont make difference to take a poorly selected team to camp in Europe.
It will be prudent to see a more talented team selected and camped in Europe.

    We the soccer fans want to see the following talents in this team;

    1. Lubambo Musonda (Armenia)
    2. Shadreck Musonda (Nkana)
    3. Julius Situmbeko (Power)
    4. Patrick Ngoma (Arrows)
    5. Austin Muwowo (Nkana)
    6. Seith Sakala (NAPSA/Israel)
    7. Emmanuel Mbola
    8. Evans Kangwa
    9. Alex Ngonga
    10.Moses Phiri
    11. Kayawe Kapota
    12. Billy Mutale
    13. Felix Chepeshi
    14. Chirwa (the defensive Midfielder)
    15. Lewis Macha (Mozambique)
    16. Sate Sate Kampamba
    17. Mukuka Mulenga
    18. Boyd Mkandawire
    19. Patson Daka
The rest defenders u can add bu for me we are not short of ammunition if u look at these young lads.

    • And that is assuming all the players you’ve mentioned will be in top form in the run up to the tournament. But if your selection is based purely on names and past performances then its fallacy. Incredible that you can come up with a list of players three months before kick off. Players need to be monitored between now and November. No one should feel they have an automatic right to walk into the team.

  5. The current weather condition in Europe and Senegal are the same? Why not camp in a neighbouring country within north Africa and stop the nonsense of Europe blah blah blah. Thats a problem with Zambian football management you start with a bang and waste money in Europe only to come out Mickey Mice at the tournament.

  6. Camp the boys either in Gabon or Cameroon.atleast weather conditions in these countries are similar to Senegal unlike European cold weather also playing west African local clubs will add value since majority of teams will come from west Africa.preparations starts now this time kalu should not interfere in team selection.we don’t want to come back in the first round.

    • Gabon or Cameroon???????? Do you know where Senegal is bro? Check the African map again.Gabon and Cameroon (central Africa) have equatorial climatic conditions, whereas Senegal is has tropical weather conditions with temperatures ranging from hot to extremely hot for most of the year. Hence the need to camp in North Africa.

  7. Am not sure there is any FA president all over the world that lives in another country and controls activity in his country. There is a different between being a good footballer during your playing days and football administration.Someone should be able to challenge Kalu for the presidency not necessarily an ex footballer but someone who understands the game and can manage the FA better. I cant imagine Kwesi Nyantakyi(Ghana FA president) moving out of Ghana for no reason to go and stay in another country

  8. There is really no need for such extravagance. Its not like we are sending a team to win the senior tournament. Sending them all the way to Europe when they can prepare at home is not a good idea for me. Even should they win the tournament it will do nothing for the reputation of Zambia.

    • @don,we’ve proved to the world we can win bronze or better when given the platform in this olympic under 23 or whatever, its about time uor country do same or better either than that, stop lamenting about Ghana’s absence, show the world what u can offer.

  9. Its a good idea to come the team in Europe. Play friendlies with European clubs much better than playing our local clubs. Ngonga Alex if he is below 23 Liz call him. We need evans KANGWA, mbola, lubambo,in the team.this time no nonsense.

  10. No to Europe, its a big distraction for the lads. Maybe Faz can look at camping in Isreal in future when preparing for continental football seeing as we have contacts with that country and it gets hot, i think. This time just stick to SA or like someone said North Africa.

  11. Very Ironic indeed, but either way I will believe when I see it. These people at FAZ are talk and no action. Useless corrupt admin ever since I can remember.

    • soccerman vent your life frustrations elsewhere. the conomy is biting for everyone leave ba Faz alone inga ulefwaya na iwe uke iminine pa faz presidence tukamone abakakuvotela boy.

  12. When are we going to develop our own camping facility as it were on our own soils? I guess we have a share of most weather patterns of Africa.

  13. Obby chirwa does not need an assessment he can walk straight into the first eleven . The guy has improved a lot. He reminds me rotson kilambe ..

  14. why is mwanza the one telling us stuff.what is nkwetos job kanshi? Licensing officer shoyld not evn face media.ba mufulira

  15. Headline is misleading in that the decision on where to camp hasn’t been reached upon. The tournament will be played under relatively dry conditions ( late Nov – mid Dec). November is winter in Europe. So yes it’s probably not the most sensible thing to camp in Europe. North Africa would make more sense.
