The Zambia U17 Women’s National Team will commence its FIFA World Cup qualification campaign this weekend.
The Copper Princesses will host Tanzania on Saturday at Nkoloma Stadium in the first leg.
Coach Carol Kanyemba has been drilling the squad for the past two weeks in preparation for the encounter.
The preparations started with an all stars vs the Rest initiative that saw Provincial teams compete for players to earn their places in the team to face the Provisional Squad.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw with a number of players earning themselves a ticket to join the provisional squad.
The team is a blend of 2023 Region 5 games silver medalists and newcomers.
Pataaki Girls star forward Blessings Zangose Zulu is the skipper of the side and is joined by the likes of Harriet Matipa, Taonga Mubanga, Margaret Gondwe, and Mercy Chipasula.
Elite Ladies forward Saliya Mwanza is among the new additions to the team.
Zambia last qualified to the World Cup back in 2014 with the class of Barbra Banda, Grace Chanda, Margaret Belemu and Hazel Nali.
Zambia will travel for the away fixture a week later. The winner over two legs will face Uganda or Cameroon in the third round.
Three African teams qualify for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held in the Dominican Republic after round four of the qualifiers.
