Chipolopolo defender Benedict Chepeshi is expecting a tough tournament at the 2023 COSAFA Championship.
Chepeshi believes, being defending Champions means teams will prepare adequately when coming up against the Chipolopolo Boys.
The Red Arrows defender says everyone is pushing hard to represent the country at the COSAFA and he is confident they are ready for the challenge.
Zambia is in Group B and will open its account on July 6 against the Flames of Malawi before facing Comoros three days later.
The final group match will be against Seychelles on July 11 at the Princess Magogo Stadium.
“Everyone is ready to push and go represent the country in the COSAFA this year,” Chepeshi said.
“We are in a very tough group, we can’t take anything away from Malawi, Comoros and Seychelles, they will also come to compete but we just have to our best because we are the defending Champions, the games won’t be easy but we have to prepare, get ready and Psych ourselves.”
“Being defending Champions is not easy because every team will prepare adequately for us, So the message amongst is to really work hard in each and every game and take each game as it comes and of course deliver the results,” he added.
Zambia is using the Cosafa as a preparatory tournament for the July month-end African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier.
“It’s important for us to prepare well because we will use these games to prepare for the CHAN tournament. Last year we were knocked out but this year we have to do better and qualify for the tournament,” he said.
“For the fans, they have to rally behind the team, we are their Boys, they have to support us, we call on them to support us and be behind us all the way.”
