Sichone says the team will work hard to defend their crown but they are also preparing the team for CHAN qualifiers.

Zambia’s journey for a possible fourth appearance at the CHAN tournament was cut short by Mozambique at Lusaka’s Heroes Stadium following a 1-0 loss.

Zambia is using the Cosafa as a preparatory tournament for the July month-end African Nations Championship (CHAN)qualifier

“We are looking forward to going and defending the Cup. I came up with this squad because it’s not only COSAFA we are looking at but also trying to prepare for the CHAN tournament,” Sichone said.

“COSAFA for us is more developmental , hence we thought it was a good thing to give young players some exposure and see how they can perform.”

Zambia is in Group B and will open its account on July 6 against the Flames of Malawi before facing Comoros three days later.

The final group match will be against Seychelles on July 11 at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

“The group where we are is a good group, we are not taking any opponent lightly. We would like to bring all positive results and of course win the tournament,” he said.

“The way the fans came in numbers when we played Ivory Coast, I expect every Zambian to be behind the team.”

The Chipolopolo will open their account on Thursday with a tricky tie against the Flames of Malawi at King Zwelithini Stadium.

  1. Where is the coach? We don’t want excuses when we are knocked out. I don’t trust SIchone from the time he dumped the national team with his friend during the time of their peak as players.
