The case of Lusaka Dynamos…A big project on the rise

Lusaka Dynamos was formed in 1979 by Hanif Adam who has also played for the club before he commercialized it to become a top club. It was renowned for spotting and nurturing young talent and later selling it locally or export to top clubs and they had to change the approach recently as they started recruiting top ripe talent on the globe to fight for onus.

The club has had its ups and downs as at one time between 2010 and 2013 they played in FAZ third-tier league before they bounced back. They have one title to their name which is the BP top 8 cup after walloping Zesco United one-nil the game which was played in 2008.

Their best league has been 5th position in 2017 and 5th position during the transitional league,5 points adrift of stream A winners Zesco and they would have won the league thereby being their best position and great achievement of playing continental if it wasn’t for FIFA to strip them 6 points.

Current times

The investment Lusaka Dynamos have been making in recent times especially this current season is huge and should be appreciated by every meaningful football-loving Zambian. The players the team has signed are top class and can be starters at most teams in the FAZ super league and even some top African clubs.

The buses the team has, the Benz and Navigator brand are first-class buses which by themselves should motivate the players, yes buses won’t play football but they are a catalyst to motivation.

They have not moved away from developing local talent as they still have one of the best youth teams which are done on an open-door policy as they invite players from all walks of life for trials at the junior teams every season. They have even extended the gesture to women as they now have a women’s team which is scheduled to participate in a 12 teams FAZ women’s super league.

People have made fun of them especially the recent FIFA ban which came to the fore as a result of failure to settle some players’ salaries. People have questioned why they have continued luring big names to their team when they try to allude to the previous events.

The thing for sure is that Lusaka Dynamos have learned a lesson and wouldn’t want history to repeat itself, they have put their house in order and anyone will agree that something of the past has not popped up in recent times. There must be sanity at the club unless otherwise. One sad thing is people especially international blogs and bloggers have tried and are still talking bad about the club despite the strides it’s making and one notable event is the Mothusi cooper story in which they are claiming that Lusaka Dynamos have failed to pay the transfer and signing on fee the thing which his agent and management have refuted publicly, they have used past events to try to derail the effort the club is making thing which should not be tolerated.

If Zambia and Africa should make progress when it comes to football then we need to embrace each other, yes we need to talk but not always talking negatively when there is something good. We don’t live and should not be judged by the past as we all have errored and committed wrongdoings before.

Lusaka dynamos struggling?

Lusaka Dynamos have not struggled so to say, during the transitional league if it wasn’t for FIFA to strip them six points they would have played continental football. They failed to replicate the transitional form the next season and if anyone can remember the team has been going through many transformations. They had good top-class players who didn’t stay with the club for so long, only Chrispin Mugalu stayed long among the best players they had and the FIFA ban had to unsettle them a bit hence the slowdown in progress. Football is a patient adventure and takes a bit of time. You can have the right tools but if you have not gotten used to how to use them, you will struggle with their usage.

It is only last season and this season when Lusaka Dynamos have continued with their project no one expects them to make an instant huge impact but just show intent. If they will try to keep the players this time around, then they will make the much-expected progress. They have some of the best talents on the continent and Wedson Nyirenda who must be getting a good amount of money as he is rumored to be among the best-earning coaches if not the top in the league and if people can remember when he left Baroka FC of South Africa local clubs contacted him and a rumor was that he was asking for something around K400,000 as a monthly salary but maybe those were just rumors but the fact is that he is a well-renumerated coach in the Zambia super league.

Failure to keep key players at the club has been the undoing thing for Lusaka Dynamos in my opinion.

What they need to try and do

Lusaka Dynamos needs to reduce the signings spending spree as they have now acquired almost the kind of players they need. Success can’t be bought it can only be nurtured. Am not saying Lusaka Dynamos should stop buying players no, all I am saying is they should at least buy two players per season going forward to allow and not disturb the cohesion of the team.

The chemistry which is the football understanding comes with spending more time together. The talent which Lusaka Dynamos have at the moment is top notch and they need to be given time to gel.

The key for Lusaka Dynamos is not to let their top talent leave the club, if they want to win league, play continental and reach far they need to keep hold of good players. They need to utilize the current talent they possess very well. Few signings going forward with at least two per season if possible to allow cohesion and football chemistry to take the fore should be the thing.

Are they on course?

They are on a steady rise and soon they will reach the top. Rome was not built on a single day. In the current campaign, they have only lost once to log leaders Prison Leopards who have been very impressive this season. They should not be expected to win the league but they have a chance, they boast of the best striking names plus the midfield following the acquisition of Botswana international Mothusi Cooper.

On the technical bench, they have one of the best coaches on the continent who in the history of Baroka FC is the only one to win them a trophy. They are expected to hit the ground running not so late especially in the second round of the current campaign when everyone will be settled at the club.
