Tana warns against complacency as Nkana prepare for Makeni All Stars

By Angela Bambala Bwalya

Nkana FC head coach Elijah Tana has warned his players against underestimating newly promoted Makeni All Stars as the 13-time Zambian champions look to maintain their winning start to the MTN Super League transitional season.

Nkana welcome Makeni to Nkana Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 hours, hoping to build on their opening 1-0 victory over fellow newcomers Trident FC.

Makeni, meanwhile, arrive in Kitwe after holding Kansanshi Dynamos to a goalless draw in their first match and will be determined to frustrate the hosts as they seek their first victory in the top flight.

Tana says preparations for the encounter have gone well, although his side has suffered an injury setback, with Francis Bubu Mutalange expected to miss Saturday’s fixture.

“Our preparations went well. Unfortunately, we have a problem with injuries. Bubu is missing due to an ankle injury, but he will recover. By next week, he will be ready for the next game,” Tana said.

Despite Bubu’s absence, the Nkana coach remains confident in the fitness and readiness of the rest of his squad.

“The rest of the boys are 100% fit,” he said.

Tana promises attacking approach

With Nkana seeking to make home advantage count, Tana has made it clear that his side will adopt an attacking approach but must remain wary of the threat posed by their opponents.

Makeni demonstrated their resilience by holding Kansanshi Dynamos to a draw in their opening fixture, a result that will give them confidence heading into Saturday’s encounter.

Tana insists Nkana will respect their opponents but will not allow that respect to prevent them from playing on the front foot.

“We will not underestimate Makeni All Stars. We will go all out in attack,” he said.

The coach is also counting on the club’s passionate supporters to create a strong atmosphere at Nkana Stadium as the team looks to secure another three points.

Tana has urged fans to turn out in numbers, promising an entertaining performance from his players.

“They should come and always come in numbers. We are going to entertain them and give them a good game,” he said.

For Nkana, the objective will be to build on their opening victory and establish early momentum in the transitional campaign, while Makeni will be looking to produce another disciplined performance against one of the country’s most successful clubs.

Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 hours at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe on Saturday, 10 October.
