On the Nineth of December 2018 various media houses had an opportunity of having a question and answer session with the Zambian national team Coach Sven Vandenbroeck.
This session was interactive and gave the coach a platform to highlight a number of factors that needed to be addressed.
One of the topics in this session was nutrition /diet for the players and how important it is in modern football.
“What we have now is when the players come in there is someone who checks them one by one by looking at their muscles and joints. I had to find someone to do that we did not previously have, ” he said.
Still on the matter of nutrition Sven went on to say ” I obligated medical staff to send menus to the Hotels when we travel because nutrition is one of those things in my notes.”
“Not only what they are eating but also the quantity of what they eat if we had a hot session so maybe they need to take I’m more calories,” he added.
“So many things had to be Re-adjusted and improved, so for the future we can improve on some things to get better Results.”
Zambia will face Namibia in March in a dead rubber after they were dumped out of the race to the 2019 AFCON by Mozambique.

Guys am really getting agitated with this white man talking down on us as if we just started playing football.Zambia has been their amongest the best.AFCON qualification is a birthright. You came and fail to get us there and now want to make excuses with your foolish notes.Where have those notes taken us out of four games 7 has only won 1 drown 1 and lost 2.Thats a disaster for zambia considering we were playing the likes of Mozambique, Namibia and a certain west african nation!
Don’t talk about nutrition, these players are professional players some of whom play in European nations. Are you telling me they are so inept like you Europe that they don’t advise these players about what not to eat?
Guys what wins games is not nutrition, before this idiot came we won the AFCON with the same diet he is talking about. What wins games is the technical ability of the bench.
Zambia is currently bubbling with abundant talent to make at least two teams capable of beating mozambique any day any time.
How do we explain the omission of kalaba or cletus chama in a do or die encounter like the last one?How do we explain the late subs even after noticing that your gumble on banda has failed?how do you explain the use of shonga as lone striker with daka on the bench and opt to use lubambo on the wing for 70 minutes when clearly we are being tormented through the game.
Twapapata Ba kamanaga lets stop this money making venture by this man.He has proved enough to warrant me listening to him.
Lets drop the white man to the less important duty of handling the under 17 until his contract expires. Then appoint a Zambian coach on interim capacity to start the rebuilding process fill the vacancy of TD with a senior coach the likes of Dany Kabwe to oversee the structures of developmental teams.the future is in youths.
We are wasting tax payers money if we continue paying this man to mock us like we don’t know crap.Going forward FAZ invest in the local coaches.Lets not only blame our own for lack of capacity building.Send them for refresher courses out their do exchange programs with other nations in Europe and the America.let them learn I have enough confidence we have great minds within our own resource as a nation!
@Babadebe, all what you wrote can be by said even in a minibus by call-boys. But no one has ever thought of diet.
Guys what, the Under 20 are eating nshima with kapenta everyday. Look at boy Malumo has lost weight.
Nostra, Learn to be objective. These are very sensitive matters, we agree diet is important but that does not warrant a lack of qualification to AFCON.Here we are looking at excuses for failure.I for one pay tax to keep this white man in the Job and am saying he is not worth my penny and hence, he has no right to come and insult me, more so that others before him did it without using these so called computers.
You people including ka Bwale yap about developing youths. The Under 20 are not youths, they are same age as Kellian Mbape of PSG & France.
In other words change your diet to a west African diet so we can build muscle like them, he is right diet is important can we have to also humble ourselves because our 2012 success at afcon was based of pure luck, sometime luck works your way, we have only won the cup once and think we are on top of the world, lets ask ourselves, how many time have we been to the world cup? how many time have we been to the finals at afcon? lets not deceive ourselves, the truth it is not in our DNA to be consistent its NOT in any southern Africans DNA to be football giant, the West Africans have the DNA for speed and power they are born with it Same with the North Africans. So the question is how do you change DNA, I think he is right it can start with nutrition, you are what you eat, lets start looking at what foods the west and north Africans eat compared to our’s, how much more protein etc is in their food that we don’t have. we may act like he is insulting us but he is speaking truth based off our history, no world cup appearance, not consistent afcon finalist, yes we usually qualify but our record of being in the semi finals or finals is no where near the likes of Egypt, nigeria, ghana, senagal etc. your not powerhouse if you win something only once and never win it again, its fair to say it was pure luck and fluke.Egypt, nigeria, ghana, senagal has won it heaps of time and they still don’t think their untouchable In Africa
Gentlemen Diet plays a vital role in sports . Any sports man knows that fully well
