Mamelodi Sundowns have picked their second win on their pre-season tour of Zambia after they beat hosts Zesco United 1 – 0 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Sundowns who beat Mighty Mufulira Wanderers by a similar scoreline on Tuesday ensured a 100% start to their preseason with a goal from Cuthbert Malajila in the 80th minute.
Sundowns are warming up for the 2015/2016 season while Zesco United who lead the Zambian Super Division log are preparing for a home game against Green Buffaloes after the mid-season break.
Only Kennedy Mweene is with the Sundowns team in Ndola among the Zambian players on the books of the PSL side.
Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has indicated that Hichani Himonde is not in his plans but explained that Mukuka Mulenga is in his plans and was only missing from his team because he was summoned to represent Zambia in the Senegal U23 CAF Championship qualifier against Ivory Coast.
This is a reality check for Zambian clubs. We won’t go anywhere unless our clubs go professional like our counterparts. This is a gauge to check if we are ready for continental football and the glaring verdict is WE ARE NOT. We need to move with times. It’s no coincidence that the same teams in Africa qualify to the knockout stages year in year out. They are simply in a different league/class compared with the rest. I have always believed that Zesco is not a very good team. Its just that the ZPL do not have a better team that can really test or challenge Zesco. Zesco is the best club Zambia has at the moment and that should tell you the calibre of our ZPL, poor. Zesco are just a big fish in very small pond. My opinion.
Sundown should just go to hell.when the league starts mweene wil be on the bench I now how this club finish players.
Zesco utd was supose to win the match cause they active our league is on and they are in top form.We should beat team lyk Soundowns to begin comanding and feared by other teams pyschologically.
Our Ligue Is Weak.
Our midfielders as ZESCO are too slow , the strikers are not swift to poach for the goals and am wondering if the coach has ever noticed this. If we continue as team like this we will never prove to be the big fish in a small pond.
Himonde doesn’t stand a chance to play for TP Mazembe which is a far better team than Sundowns.
I’m so happy to see Kabaso Chongo starting to earn the respect of his coach and team mates especially after his strong performance in the quarter finals in CAF Champions’ Leagues
