Zambian striker Enock Sakala Jr opened his goal account for Gulf United as they came from behind to defeat Dubai City FC 3-1 in a United Arab Emirates First Division encounter on Thursday.
Gulf United found themselves trailing early after Weslley de Oliveira gave Dubai City the lead. However, the visitors responded in emphatic fashion with a devastating seven-minute spell late in the first half.
Brazilian midfielder Weberty restored parity in the 38th minute before Sakala fired Gulf United ahead three minutes later in the 41st minute — marking his first goal for the club since joining earlier this month.
Former Nkana FC winger Emmanuel Mutale sealed the victory five minutes later, capping off a superb turnaround to hand Gulf United a comfortable halftime advantage they would not relinquish.
The win lifts Gulf United to ninth position on the log with 20 points from 17 matches in the 15-team league.
Sakala recently signed a two-year deal with Gulf United as a free agent following his departure from Nkana last month.
Before rejoining Nkana, the 23-year-old had trained with South African giants Orlando Pirates during pre-season after leaving Chippa United.
He parted ways with Chippa United in July last year after a short stint that saw him make six appearances and score once. He had joined the club in February following a spell in Egypt with Modern Sport FC.
Sakala previously enjoyed a standout 2023/2024 season in the MTN Super League, scoring 12 goals and helping ZESCO United secure qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup before his move abroad.
With his first goal now registered in the UAE, Sakala will be eager to build momentum as Gulf United push for a stronger second half of the campaign.
