The Zambia women’s national football team, the Copper Queens will be aiming to secure a fourth consecutive final berth at the COSAFA Women’s Championship when they face Namibia this afternoon in Polokwane.
Zambia have been a dominant force in recent editions of the regional showpiece, lifting the trophy in 2022 and 2024, and finishing runners-up in 2023.
Another victory today would keep their title defence firmly on course and underline their consistency on the regional stage.
Familiar Foes, Added Motivation
Standing in their way is a familiar opponent in Namibia. The two sides have met nine times, with Zambia winning five, drawing three and losing just once — a defeat dating back to 2014.
However, Namibia come into the semi-final with added motivation, having twice fallen short against Zambia in Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaigns in 2022 and 2025.
Squad Boost and Expected Line-Up
The Copper Queens have received a timely boost with the return of Rhodah Chileshe, who has been cleared by medical staff after recovering from an injury sustained in training last week.
Goalkeeper Hazel Natasha Nali is expected to reclaim her place between the posts, with Margaret Belemu and Saliya Mwanza likely to operate as full-backs. Mapalo Maluba could partner Memory Nthala in central defence.
In midfield, Susan Banda is tipped to return in the holding role, although coach Haalubono Hamunjo has alternatives in Natasha Witika and Chileshe.
Maweta Chilenga and Avell Chitundu are expected to provide creativity and attacking impetus from the middle of the park.
Skipper Kabange Mupopo is set to lead the line alongside Regina Chanda and the lively Eneless Phiri. Ngosa Chabwe, who impressed against Eswatini, Agnes Phiri of Green Buffaloes, and youngster Mercy Chipasula are also available for selection.
