Copper Queens Set for March 10 WAFCON Warm-Up Clash Against Senegal

The Zambia women’s national football team, The Copper Queens will face the Senegal women’s national football team in an international friendly match on March 10, the ZamFoot Crew understands.

The high-profile encounter forms part of both teams’ final preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 set to take place in Morocco from March 17 to April 3.

Senegal’s Lionesses entered camp earlier this week as they intensify their build-up to the continental showpiece.

Meanwhile, the Copper Queens are currently competing in the COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa as part of their structured preparations for WAFCON.

The friendly was arranged after Zambia’s proposed pre-tournament training camp in Dubai fell through. As a result, the Copper Queens will now travel to Morocco earlier than initially planned, where they are expected to play additional warm-up matches ahead of the tournament kickoff.

Foreign-based players are expected to start arriving this weekend to link up with the local contingent. The COSAFA-based squad is scheduled to return home on Monday before final travel arrangements to Morocco are completed.

Group Stage Outlook

Zambia has been drawn in Group C at WAFCON 2026 alongside defending champions Nigeria women’s national football team, Malawi women’s national football team, and Egypt women’s national football team.

Senegal, on the other hand, will compete in Group A together with hosts Morocco women’s national football team, Kenya women’s national football team, and Algeria women’s national football team.

Beyond continental glory, the tournament carries additional significance as it will serve as a qualifier for the Brazil 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the top four teams earning automatic qualification.

Zambia will be looking to build on its historic debut at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

  1. Muli mbushi ba FAZ. That is one friendly 7 days before the tournament kicks off and you expect the girls to win the cup or end up top 4 and qualify to the World cup? Its wishful thinking-you are really a disappointment Mwemba and your followers at FAZ,

Just today, Ghana beat Hong Kong (China), 4-0 in Dubai. This is the tournament coach Nora was crying for as it has a number of high profile national teams and as Coach Nora stated, this was going to be a perfect preparatory games for the girls for WAFCON, but no you can’t and you expect good results to follow?

Akaso does not bring progress . Already your useless administration is seeing a down tread in women football, with the U20 being knocked out of the world cup qualifiers and now the once mighty Zambia is being disgraced by Namibia, a team we used to beat by 8-10 zeros.

It was a terrible mistake removing Kamanga from football house, because we now have a batch of mumus at FAZ who apart from being stingy have no guts to just pick phone and talk to progressive football national administrators such as Etos, Jordans etc, for high profile friends. Its a shameful and disgraceful
