Zambian Champions, Power Dynamos suffered a 2-0 defeat to Armée Patriotique Rwandaise Football Club (APR FC) in a friendly match on Sunday in Kigali.
Djibril Ouattara scored a brace to guide APR to the win at home. A beautiful header and calm finish outside the area gave APR the win.
The MTN Super League defending Champions were using the friendly match against the Rwandese giants to prepare for next month’s TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
Power will face Cote d’Ivoire side Asec Mimosa in the preliminary round. Abayellow will start their campaign at home in the first leg which will be played between 19th and 21st September, 2025.
The second leg will be played between September 26th and 28th away in Abidjan.
The winner over two legs will meet either African Stars of Namibia or Vipers SC of Uganda in the second preliminary round.
The Kitwe giants last participated in the CAF Champions League in the 2023/2024 season and were only eliminated on away goals rule after a 3-3 draw against Simba in the second round.
Prior to that it was 2012 where they were eliminated in the second round after a 7-1 aggregate bashing by TP Mazembe.
Meanwhile Asec Mimosas won the Competition in 1998 and have participated in about 15 editions.
Abayellow will look to go further this year with the lucrative group stage being the target. Power Dynamos won the 2024/2025 MTN Super League, their eighth title after accumulating 68 points from 34 league games.
Abayellow remain the only Zambian club to have won a continental trophy, lifting the CAF Cup Winners’ Cup in 1991.
