Rumsey, Lubambo, Mbola to beef up U23 squad

England’s Tipton FC striker Noble Rumsey has received a call up to the Zambia U23 national team that will go in camp to prepare for the CAF U23 final leg qualifier against Ivory Coast.

Coach Fighton Simukonda has also named senior internationals based Europe Lubambo Musonda and Emmanuel Mbola in the 26 man strong squad that will look to build on the 0 – 0 draw the team scored in the first leg played in Abidjan.

Musonda missed the first leg as he was negotiating his move to back to Armenia while Mbola will replace Boyd Mkandawire who is suspended for the game.

Another budding midfielder Charle Zulu has been named in the provisional team but there is no place for Patrick Ngoma who recently attended trials at French Ligue 1 side Lille. However, fellow trialist Patson Daka is in the team.

The team goes into camp on Sunday, 26th July, 2015.

The winners of the two legged affair will qualify for the final tournament of the African U-23 Championship scheduled for 28 November to 12 December in Senegal, where the top three teams will represent Africa at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and the fourth placed team facing an Asian side in a playoff.

  1. Evans and Billy are the only ones missing in this strong looking squad. With proper tactics, we can beat Ivory Coast. If we can use wing play, we can demolish them. We have fast paced and stealthy wingers in Lubambo, Charles Zulu and Kelvin Mubanga. If we can deploy Mukuka Mulenga in attacking midfield role, we can have the much needed creativity in midfield. Mbola and Chepeshi can counted on to stop the Ivorian wingers from running on rampage. Kayawe Kapota has now started seing game time @ Nkana which will boost his confidence levels. His combination with Benson Sakala who can also play in the holding midfield role looks rock solid. The coach will be spoiled for choices in the holding midfield role as he has quality in Shadreck Malambo, Salulani Phiri and Jack Chirwa. A twin striking partnership of Sate Sate and Moses Phiri can be quiet lethal if the balls can keep coming from midfield. I see Zambia beating Ivory Coast 2-0 should the coach put his cards right.

  2. This is great to hear that the coach can listen to fans cries. Well done Fighton, we will give you support come much day just play your cards well like what @ Martinez has put it.

  3. Lets hope they will play players on merit not on marketing notions and this Tipton United is it in the conference, can someone shed more data on this issue and the same lad.

  4. Let us hope all these prayers will be available. Otherwise its a good side. Sudan currently are not all that good than Zambia. We just need match fittiness prayer s not some of the kids lwandamina used against guinea. We need kalaba, sunzu, chisamba, lubambo, mbola, mayuka, satesate, mukuka both of them, even this kamuzungu called by fighting, super sub c katongo, and Roger kola, mutonga, and kabaso, and also the vice captain.

  5. Good to see Ba Fighton is taking this game seriously. I remember Peter Kaumba a few years ago when he was the Coach of U23 he refused to call in players like C.Mulenga,Mayuka and other boys who were eligible to play because the were in the Senior team. And we got beaten terrible by Ivory Coast who brought their best players from Europe. Guys like Max Gradel.

This man is taking his job seriously.
