Red Arrows striker Ricky Banda has set his sights on reclaiming the golden boot he won three years ago.
Banda says he wants to work hard to win the top goalscorers award despite having only managed to score two goals this season.
Titus Chansa of Mutondo Stars leads the goalscorers chart with eight goals but Banda believes the difference (6 goals) is not a lot and that he can catch up.
The former Jumulo forward won the golden boot in the 2021/2022 season helping Red Arrows to their second league title scoring 16 goals and was subsequently named as the player of the season.
“My target for this season is to become the top goalscorer and am working towards that. I know I have two goals and the leading top goalscorer has eight so I know it’s not far. I will work so hard to become the top goalscorer,â Banda told the ZamFoot Crew in an exclusive interview.
âI want to thank my teammates and the technical bench who encourage me and push me to work extra and improve on what I am not doing well. I also want to push to get a move abroad.â
Banda believes the competition in the league is very good this season. The former Zambia U-20 striker says the Airmen are focused on defending their double (the league and the ABSA Cup) as as well as returning to the CAF Champions League.
“I think the competition is good. Each and every team is working hard to achieve their goal for the season. For us as Red Arrows we want to defend the league , ABSA Cup and of course go back to the CAF Champions League. We working on improving and focusing only on our goals as a club,â he said.
Next up for Ricky Banda and the Airmen is a home fixture against Green Eagles on Saturday.
The Airmen are currently 4th on the log with 17 points after 10 games.
