Renard: I feel the same spirit we had with Zambia in 2012

Ivory Coast coach Herve Renard will be looking to make history by becoming the first coach to win the Africa Cup of Nations gold medal with two different teams while Ghana will be looking to break the 33 year old title drought.

There is no clear favorite between the two teams but there will be all to play for when the game kicks off at 2000hrs CAT.

Despite boasting some of Africa’s biggest stars, neither country has won the tournament this millennium after flattering to deceive at recent competitions.

Ghana last won the title in 1982 while Ivory Coast last last lifted the trophy in 1992 in a thrilling final, ironically against Ghana which ended 11 – 10 on penalties in favor of Ivory Coast.

Renard will feel he is in familiar waters having played in the final three years ago with Zambia and he is counting on that experience to help the Elephants to nations cup glory.

“I’m feeling every day the same way and same team spirit that we had with Zambia in 2012,” he told a news conference on Saturday.

  1. Renard is a good coach. but as zambians we have never appreciated his work. He reached the quarter finals in 2010 and won the cup in 2012. Being eliminated in first round in 2013 does not make him a bad coach, what about Spain in Brazil ? Did they sack Del Bosque ? Even in France the guy performed well though his team was relegated but that was not his fault. I would like to see all those who insulted Renard.

  2. Can powers that be,convince HR to come back to Zambia? It’s very clear that we lost a very good coach whom we currently need..We have more talented players currently, than we had in 2012, but we’re lacking a tactician who can make winning team..
