Qualifying for the World Cup was not a plan but an ambition says Grant

Chipolopolo Boys coach Avram Grant has retaliated that qualifying to the World Cup was just an ambition.

Speaking after Zambia suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tanzania, the 69 year old gave an insight on Zambia’s chances of a maiden appearance at a World Cup.

“Qualifying for the World Cup was not a plan but an ambition,” he has been quoted by Brighton Tembo

“We realize our prospects of going to the World Cup are slim due to our group.

Zambia has only picked up a 3 points from a possible 12 while Morocco lead Group E on 9 points.

“You are aware that we performed admirably during the previous year and a half. It was not a goal to go to the World Cup.

“We want to get to the World Cup, but remember that we are Zambia, not Morocco.

“We are not like the other teams. It was our desire to attend the World Cup, but we understand how difficult it is.”

“Going to the Africa Cup for Zambia is more feasible. The first goal was to return to the Africa Cup after a nine-year absence. The second goal was to go to the world cup, but we knew it would be a difficult group, and Morocco outperformed us.

  1. Can you keep a coach who talks like that? The man has no desire or plan to raise our team to any level worthy. Is Morocco really better than us looking at the way they played against us at their own turf. It is only AVRAM’s MEDIOCRE coaching that cost us, A coach who does not bark instructions to his players but only sits down and watches disinterestedly! A coach who fails to read the game so that he can swiftly make substitutions, but waits until 5 minutes before the end of the match to effect subs. It’s actually a pity that he still has some months to his contract. We surely will be glad as Zambians to see the back of him. The man is EXHAUSTED and IDEALESS. Look back nostalgically at Renard: ‘Mayuka, I want to see to run!’ ‘ Hey, Five Minutu’!…. FAZ, please get us a credible coach; a coach whose aim will be to go beyond what we have already achieved. We have already lifted the Afcon Cup. So going to the Afcon is NOTHING SPEACIAL! We WANT TO GO TO THE WORLD CUP! Any coach who takes pride in taking the team to another Afcon is WORTHILESS. GET US A VIBRANT COACH; NOT A TIRED MAN; NOT A BENCH DISINTERESTED SPECTATOR COACH. Thank you.
