38 Copper Queens named in Olympics provisional squad

Copper Queens boss Bruce Mwape has named a 38 member provisional squad for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The tournament will take place in France from 24 July – 10 August 2024.

A number of key players have made a return to the team including Margaret Belemu, Mary Wilombe and Ochumba Oseke Lubanji who were out doing military training with the Zambia Air force.

Midfield ace Evarine Susan Katongo also makes a return after missing the back to back final round qualifiers against Morocco due to injury.

Skipper Barbra Banda leads the squad alongside Rachel Kundananji, Grace Chanda, Lushomo Mweemba and Ireen Lungu.

Zambia will be aiming to get out of the group and to do one better than the previous Olympics outing when they clash against USA, Germany and Australia in Group B.

The Copper Queens opening match will be against United States on 25th July at the Nice Stadium before facing the Matildas of Australia in the penultimate match three days later.

They will wrap up their group campaign with a tussle against arch-rivals Germany at the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium on 31 July.
