The 2025/26 MTN Super League season rolls into Week 21 with the title race tightening, the top four jostling for continental places and the relegation battle growing increasingly tense.
With just a handful of points separating key positions across the table, this weekend could significantly shape the trajectory of the campaign.
Match of the Weekend: Nchanga Rangers vs Red Arrows
Log leaders Red Arrows face one of their sternest tests of the season when they travel to Chingola to take on third-placed Nchanga Rangers at Nchanga Stadium.
The Airmen sit top with 39 points after 19 matches, boasting the league’s best defensive record (12 goals conceded) and a +16 goal difference. A 2-0 midweek victory over NAPSA Stars — powered by Albert Kangwanda’s brace — kept them firmly in control of the summit.
But Rangers, on 34 points from 20 matches, are very much in the conversation. A win would move them within touching distance of the top — and potentially into second place — depending on results elsewhere. With Christopher Itaka and Elliot Kampukesa leading the line, Rangers have the attacking weapons to trouble Chisi Mbewe’s disciplined backline marshalled by Michee Malonga.
For Red Arrows, midfield balance through Alassane Diarra and the clinical edge of Kangwanda could prove decisive in what promises to be a high-intensity encounter between two genuine title contenders.
Top Four Watch: Pressure Mounts Behind the Leaders
Second-placed Power Dynamos (35 points) travel to Lusaka to face struggling NAPSA Stars at REIZ Arena.
Power come into the fixture on a three-match winning streak and carry the confidence of continental experience. Coach Oswald Mutapa has warned against complacency, insisting his side must “go there and get the result.” History strongly favours the Kitwe giants — 17 wins in 26 meetings — while NAPSA’s last victory in this fixture dates back to 2018.
However, with NAPSA winless in five and desperate to pull away from danger, new coach Tennant Chilumba — himself a former Power Dynamos boss — will be keen to spark a response in his second match in charge.
Elsewhere, fourth-placed Zanaco (31 points) face a tricky away assignment against 15th-placed Nkwazi FC at Edwin Imboela Stadium. Despite their league position, Nkwazi have proven stubborn opponents for Zanaco, who are winless in the last seven meetings between the sides.
Fifth-placed Mufulira Wanderers (31 points) also face a demanding trip to Ndola to play ZESCO United, who sit 11th but are rejuvenated after midweek success and ABSA Cup qualification. Wanderers cannot afford a slip-up with Kabwe Warriors (30 points) lurking just behind.
In Mazabuka, seventh-placed FC MUZA (28 points) host eighth-placed Green Eagles (26 points) in a tightly poised Southern derby. With only two points separating the sides, a victory for either could catapult them firmly into top-four contention.
Relegation Battle: Fine Margins at the Bottom
At the foot of the table, the pressure continues to mount.
Bottom-placed Mines United (13 points) welcome 10th-placed Green Buffaloes in Kabwe. Mines have shown signs of improvement, losing just once in their last six matches, but they remain five points adrift of safety.
Seventeenth-placed FC Leopards (15 points) host ninth-placed Konkola Blades knowing that home form could determine their survival. Leopards have not beaten Blades since 2022 — a worrying statistic for a side desperate to climb out of the bottom two.
Meanwhile, 13th-placed Kansanshi Dynamos (21 points) take on 16th-placed Mutondo Stars (17 points) in Solwezi in what could prove a defining six-pointer. Just four points separate the sides, and with both battling inconsistency and injury concerns, the stakes could hardly be higher.
Mutondo arrive buoyed by a 2-1 win over MUZA, while Kansanshi, reeling from defeat, will look to home advantage to avoid being dragged deeper into the relegation scrap.
As Week 21 unfolds, the MTN Super League table paints a picture of a competition finely balanced across all fronts — from the championship chase to the scramble for CAF spots and the fight for survival.
If Week 20 set the stage, this weekend could well redraw the script.
