Zambia Super League log leaders Power Dynamos missed out a chance to extend their lead at the summit as they were held to a 3-3 draw by Kabwe Warriors.
Heading into the match, Power had a chance to open an eight point lead the summit after their neighbors and biggest rivals Nkana beat second placed Forest Rangers 3-1 on Saturday at Arthur Davies Stadium.
Abayellow went into the match on Sunday knowing a win will take them further away from the chasing pack.
However things did not start quite as expected as Kabwe Warriors were awarded a penalty after Lawrence Mulenga was judged to have brought down Samuel Onyango, Akakulubelwa Mwachiaba stepped up and converted from the penalty spot.Â
Abayellow drew level 15 minutes later as Joshua Mutale pounced on a loose ball in the 18 yard area to end his goal drought and pull Power level.
But two minutes later Mwachiaba put the magnificent People’s team back in the lead with a low header following Power Dynamos’ failure to deal with a beautiful cross into the box.
In-form Congolese forward Andy Boyeli drew Power level at the half hour mark with a powerful strike from the edge of the box leaving Danny Munyau with no chance.
Kabwe Warriors were back in the lead in the 68th minute after Ocean Mushure converted from the spot following an handball in the box by Aaron Katebe.
Five minutes later referee Mathews Hamalila awarded another penalty as a Warriors defender was judged to have fouled Mutale in the box.
Boyeli stepped up and converted with ease to pull Power Dynamos level and earn them a valuable point.
The win takes Power to 47 points, six adrift of Forest Rangers in second place.
