Power Dynamos Eye Summit Spot as Buffaloes Visit Arthur Davies

By Angela Bambala Bwalya

Power Dynamos F.C. will look to take a decisive step in the MTN Super League title race when they host Green Buffaloes F.C. at Arthur Davies Stadium on Thursday afternoon (15:00 CAT).

Second-placed Dynamos head into the fixture knowing victory would lift them to the summit on 45 points, capitalising on one of their two games in hand. With the title race finely poised, momentum appears to be with the Kitwe giants, who are unbeaten in their last six league matches, collecting five wins and a draw.

Buffaloes, meanwhile, arrive in Kitwe occupying 10th place with 27 points from 21 matches. Their recent form tells a contrasting story, with just one win in their previous six outings — a run that has stalled their push towards the top half of the table.

When the sides last met, Dynamos edged a competitive contest 2-1, underlining the narrow margins that have defined this fixture in recent seasons. Thursday’s encounter, however, carries far greater weight for the hosts, who sense an opportunity to apply pressure at the top.

Head coach Osward Mutapa has called for focus and consistency from his players as they approach a pivotal stretch of the campaign.

“Very important win and a boost as we head into tomorrow’s game. It’s about showing consistency in performance and getting results. I think we have to go for it as it will push us to the summit of the table.”

Mutapa also pointed to squad depth as a crucial asset, particularly with a demanding schedule that requires careful management of minutes.

“We are able to jaungle around and see to it that we give some of the players that have played enough minutes in their legs to get some rest but also try and have the balance of the team get us the results.”

The ability to rotate without weakening the side could prove decisive, especially against a Buffaloes team traditionally known for organisation and physical discipline.

Beyond tactics, Mutapa is banking on the home crowd to provide an extra edge at Arthur Davies Stadium — a venue that has increasingly become a fortress during Dynamos’ unbeaten run.

“Our fans have always been fantastic from the team’s prospective. We want them to come in numbers and support from the first whistle until the end. They are our 12th player. We would want them to come, to make the noise that will make the team get the results.”

For Dynamos — affectionately known as Abayellow — the equation is simple: win, and the table tilts in their favour. For Buffaloes, it is a chance to disrupt the title narrative and rediscover momentum.

With contrasting form lines, title implications, and a fervent home crowd expected, Thursday’s clash promises to be more than just another league fixture — it could mark a defining moment in the championship race.
