Former Zambia U17 forward Rickson N’gambi believes the team that has been assembled for the Mukuru Four Nations Tournament set to take place in Francis Town, Botswana.
Ng’ambi described the Four Nations Tournament as a crucial step in the team’s long-term ambitions. The former Zambia U-17 player believes the squad is ready to compete despite facing opponents with more experience.
“I think, first of all, I would like to thank the coaches and FAZ (Football Association of Zambia)for starting this program as early as possible. It’s a very important tournament, looking at our age group and what we want to achieve, like the Olympics which are coming ahead. It’s very good preparation for us,” he said.
“We are very prepared. We are equal to the task. They have experience, but football is played on the field, and how you play yourself is how the results will come.”
N’gambi also highlighted the importance of learning from senior players and reflecting on the current state of Zambian football.
“From the first day, we have been talking with some senior players and looking at where our football is; this is not where we want to be as Zambia. The message is so clear that we have to take Zambia to where we belong,” he said.
He further praised the warm reception and guidance from the senior members of the national team, emphasizing the values needed to succeed.
“They welcomed us very well—we can’t complain about that. They have been encouraging us, saying that’s how they also started. They have been here before, where we are right now, so what matters is the hard work, the discipline, and the consistency.”
N’gambi concluded with a message to fans, asking for their support.
“My message is: let them support us. I know it’s not easy, but we are going to do our level best to bring the results back home.”
Zambia are scheduled to face Malawi on Saturday at 15:00 at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium.
