Power dynamos closes in on Super League titleĀ

Power Dynamos took a significant step towards winning the 2024/2025 MTN Super League title after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Zesco United in their week 29 encounter.

Eddy Ishmael Ankobo scored the only goal of the game as the Ndeke based outfit claimed the bragging rights to the Electric derby.

The stadium was full to capacity as the two teams battled it out, with Power Dynamos ultimately emerging victorious.

Power Dynamos currently sits top of the log table with 57 points, 6 points clear of second-placed Zesco United.

With only five games remaining, Power Dynamos is on the brink of being crowned 2024/2025 MTN Super League champions, which would mark their eighth league title.

However, it’s worth noting that the next three games will be crucial in determining their fate.

In a post-match interview, the Power Dynamos coach struck a cautious tone, saying, “One hand on the trophy but still a lot of work to be done. We still have to play to win in the other games, we can’t just say this is over. Six points difference is not too much difference, it’s just two games and we have five games to go,” Mutapa told the ZamFoot Crew.

The coach also revealed that the team has 32 players in camp and plans to manage the squad for the upcoming league games against Napsa Stars and Nkwazi.

As a result, the starting eleven will not play in the ABSA Cup game against Barts Fc, with the coach stating, “We have to manage the two league games.. meaning the starting eleven won’t even play in the ABSA Cup game.”

Zesco United’s coach Emmanuel Siwale, on the other hand, is staying optimistic despite dropping points in the match.

“We have dropped points, we wanted to win, and we prepared well, and the boys played very well,” he said. The team created scoring opportunities, but failing to capitalize on them made all the difference,ā€ Siwale said.

The coach acknowledged that the outcome could have been different if they had taken advantage of those chances. Looking ahead, Zesco United still has five games to go, and the coach emphasized that the title race is far from over.

“We have five games to go, and no one has won the title yet because we don’t know what tomorrow will bring. This is football, we still keep pushing.”

Power Dynamos is away to Napsa stars in Lusaka on Thursday, while ZESCO United takes on FC MUZA  at home.
