Players abroad: Kabaso stars in Mazembe win

Kabaso Chongo was in great form for TP Mazembe as he provided an assist in their 2 – 0 victory over Lupopo FC in a crunch match in the Congo DR Super League.

Kabaso seems to have sealed his place at right back for the African Club Champions and was named in the starting XI together with Chipolopolo captain Rainford Kalaba and Nathan Sinkala.

Mazembe scored the two goals which settled the match within the first 10 minutes with Kabaso providing the assist for the second goal in the 9th minute which was converted by the two goal hero Bolingi.

The former Konkola Mine Police defender who has been called to the Chipolopolo squad completed the entire game together with Sinkala while Kalaba was replaced at half time.

Kalaba was unlucky not to find the net after he saw his effort come off the woodwork in the 19th minute.

Given Singuluma was not on the bench.

In the Portugues Segunda league, Moses Phiri continues to settle at his club as he again played in Academico Viseu’s loss to Penafiel. Phiri came in as a 75th minute substitute with his club already 2 – 0 down and the match ended with the same scoreline.

In Belgium, Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba was not in the Lierse team that was held to a 0 – 0 draw at home against SV Roeselare on Friday.

Chisamba Lungu’s Ural will be in action on Monday when they kick start their campaign for the final part of the season against Dinamo Moskva.

Rogers Kola continues to recover from his injury and was not in the Veria team that drew 0 – 0 against Levadiakos.

Stopilla Sunzu was back on the Lille bench when his team won 2 – 0 at home against Reims. Sunzu has not played a league game this year featuring only once in a cup game in January.

Noah Chivuta was in the starting line-up and played the entire game when Nakhon Ratchasima lost 1 – 0 to Muang Thong United in the opening game of the Thailand season. The 32 year old remains a key player in midfield for his club.

Evans Kangwa played 90 minutes for Hapoel Ra’anana but could not help his club win as they lost 2 – 0 at home to Bnei Yehuda. Emmanuel Mbola did not feature as he was suspended after accumulating five yellow cards and was given permission to visit home.

Winstone Kalengo was as expected named in the starting eleven for Ac Leopards when they won 2 – 1 against Aiglon Cara but was this time not on target.

In South Africa, it was a good weekend for the Zambia players as all their teams progressed to the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup while James Chamanga and Jacob Mulenga were both in action as already reported.

  1. So it looks like when it comes to right back we are sorted with Kabaso. Just left back left to sort out now since the coach has chosen to keep ignoring Mbola.

Well even if we have got the wrong end of the stick it is somewhat good the Charly Musaonda saga is over. We can now move on. I guess for many Zambians and Africans at large patriotism is insignificant as compared to money and fame. Well I guess he has a 100 times better chances of playing in the world cup if he plays with Belgium or England than he has with Zambia, a team that doesn’t even have a coach. Good luck to the lad. Its amazing how America has built such a strong belief in patriotism in its nationals and yet for Africa being patriotic seems like a joke. To be honest the only nationals I have seen out rightly proud of their country in Africa is shockingly Zimbabweans, even the white ones.

  2. Let hope charley musonda will make a good decision money is something someone should not put first we need to exort our continent look at players like zizo , benzema and many more are starring mean while they are africans we don’t want that situition in zambia is it means african football will not produce a good player and this issue citizenship why is it that it is only in africa why is it that only european national team are getting africa players I think fifa should look into that let these players stop playing for national teams if they don’t hav nationality originaly coz we are being robbed buy european countries

  3. The Chinese league is becoming competitive as can be attested by the number of Brazillians playing there. If the coach doesn’t want him, let him go back after the loan period ends.
