Paper Talk: Nyirenda gives FAZ a signal after he applying for Cameroon job

National football team coach Wedson Nyirenda may have jumped from a frying pan to fire by applying for the Cameroun national team coaching job.

An insider at Football House yesterday told the Times Sport that the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) was extremely displeased with the coach move and may table his sacking for what is termed indiscipline in the executive meeting.

Nyirenda is among the 71 coaches that have applied for the vacant Cameroun job but his employees have not taken the move lightly.

The sources also revealed that Nyirenda is scheduled to have a meeting with the Sports Minister Moses Mawere this week.

“FAZ seems not too happy with Wedson‘s conduct and he may face disciplinary measures,” the source said.

It will also be interesting to see if coach Nyirenda will be in charge of the team ahead of the COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup after hinting to FAZ that they should fire him and give him his dues.

Nyirenda a fortnight ago wrote an email to FAZ saying that he felt not wanted by his employers and that they should relieve him of his duties and pay him.

Nyirenda in the letter also refused to be part of the technical committee meeting stating that it was unnecessary since the FAZ had already made up its mind.

“I don’t think there is need for technical review when you have already judged and made up your minds. You would be doing me a great favour if you terminated my contract. I have been injured for so long now and I’m only human. We cannot go on pretending. Where I thought I would be getting understood according to our objective is where I am getting attacks,” Nyirenda said.

The Chipolopolo regroups today in Lusaka with coach Nyirenda summoning a new look Chipolopolo for preparations ahead of COSAFA next month.

Nyirenda has left no room for Zanaco regular trio Ziyo Tembo, Toaster Nsabata and Ernest Mbewe.

The coach has also left out Zesco United players in Fackson Kapumbu, Simon Silwimba, Kondwani Mtonga, Lazarous Kambole and John Ching’andu.

Nyirenda has handed call outs to Kitwe United striker Emmanuel Chabula and Peter Nyirenda of New Monze Swallows among others.

  1. A very big lesson to you Andrew Kamanga.you have been so tolerant. You have all the powers vested in you to relieve your so called Wada(Non performer)of his duties but for whatever reasons, you have been adamant and this at the expense of millions of zambian soccer followers.
You have been hearing several outburts and cries of the fans but decided to give a deaf ear and maintain your Wada. Now he plans of dumping you and that is when you think of firing him??? what a shame on you Kamanga…what has happened to your powers now?? Wedson Nyirenda has no regard for FAZ its no wonder he shunned your meeting to review his performance. He is a very arrogant and stubborn man! He listens to no one, takes no advise and never forgiving! We have lost games that could have meant a lot to the nation because of his arrogance and yet you Kamanga and team have been very mute about all this like all was normal.Shame on you! If your own clubs like NAPSA stars,Buildcon can fire and quickly hire and move on…..why can’t you do the same as the country’s soccer governing body?
Now take a look at the current call ups for the COSAFA.This your coach has left out the veterans in Ziyo,Ernest Mbewe,Kapumbu,Kambole,Silwamba etc and again Fwayo. You wonder what criteria he uses in picking players.
Surely for how long is her going to experiment, and when are players going to jell and blend if he keeps changing players like socks. This to me is a very WRONG SIGNAL.Now you think of firing him because he has given you a SIGNAL(CAMEROUN).My piece of free advice to you Kamanga is that;Fire this Nyirenda and quickly find a replacement before the African qualifiers kick off in september.it may seem like very far from now but believe me time is flying super fast and by the time Nyirenda dumps you,it will be way too late to find a replacement.Show him the exit door now and divorce him and pay the damages..period!

  2. Cameroun can never even employ him…His CV is very bad.And even if they were to employ him,he can never stay…He would be sacked in just a month.Let him dream on and think cameroun can employ him.

    • Wedson coaching Cameroon, full of stars parading in Europe and he thinks they will take him seriously. His application is already in the garbage can believe me you. What credentials is having to coach a team like Cameroon?? Keep on dreaming

  3. Give us a signal mama, what do with this arrogant stubborn wada please mama we are waiting for your signal.on a serious note bro chawinga I second your point you are sport on.

    • We want results and keeping the team together.much as it is for exposing upstarts,we have to have a vision and look to the future.the team need to be together for a long time and blend as you look up to the AFCON qualifiers. That is inconsistence, which has really cost us.A lot of factors my dear friend are always taken into consideration as you go into a tounament.COSAFA may sound as if its a small thing but in reality those games count and contibute on the rise or fall on FIFA rankings and therefore we need to pick the best local players. So to correct you:COSAFA IS NOT FOR UPSTARTS BUT LOCALLY BASED PLAYERS AND WE MEAN BEST PLAYERS.
      BOTTOM LINE IS:WEDSON HAS FAILED.

      • With a Proper and Qualified coach yes. With Nyirenda we can as well send Monze Swallows to represent us, for the difference is the same

  4. So tired of people blaming Kamanga for this. GRZ and specifically President Lungu were the ones who decided that Wedson Nyirenda was the man for the job.

The government also sits back and talks about inability to afford a coach, yet the amount of money ending up in politicians pockets is ridiculously high.

Now the Government sits back and acts like they had nothing to do with this.

Secondly, Nyirenda has the right to apply wherever he wants. It is clear both he and his employers are not happy so why not.

This whole thing is such a big shame. Nyirenda was perhaps the best of the local coaches with success in the local league with Zesco and Zanaco, and in Mozambique. Between Lwandamina, Janza, and the late Keegan Mumba, and Matsauso Mwale…i couldn’t think of any other local coach who could have done this job. Now it seems like the team seems to be one dimensional as demonstrated in CHAN.

  5. Wadas departure will open the way for overseas players such as Chirwa, Kangwa, Lubambo, Mbola, Saith Sakala, Kalaba, Chongo, Sinkala and locals such Mutale, Fwayo. These 10 players can make a difference to our Afcon sodjourn, but “Prophet Wada” thinks otherwise.

  6. @ Kafusha, i mentioned 10 players for consideration not one local player! Local refers to players in our ZPL. Hope that clears the air with you!

  7. Isn’t this the kind of move that got the Big Boss, Stephen Keshi fired by the Nigerian FA when he applied for the Ivory Coast job? What does Nyirenda hold on FAZ’s head that he can be so contemptuous? In as much as he has every right to apply where ever he wants to, this is complete disrespect for FAZ. It is clear, he is trying to force FAZ’s hand to fire him so he can receive benefits. FAZ, swallow the bitter pill and let the man go.

  8. FAZ is broke and cannot afford to just fire this guy on a whim and have to pay him out. I am not a Kamanga fan but I think sometimes us fans over simplify not so simple things. Kamanga and company need to find an avenue to fire this guy without having to further compensate him. If they just act on fans emotions of just firing the guy they will have to pay him out and that would be a double waste. They tried to use the technical committee meeting but it seems to have failed now they have another opportunity now that he has applied for another job.

Why do we not also acknowledge the fact that we have Wada because Lungu got a sign that local is lekker!! With all Wada’s failures we need to now ask, where did that sign come from? Which Mama sent the signal??

FAZ have to be strategic on this and not just act like a club. This particular issue is of national interest and also due to Govt footing part of the coach salary attracts interference from Govt.

Wada should go and he should go without being compensated. A mistake was made to not include a performance or target clause in his contract that would have allowed FAZ to kick him out quick. For now they have to seek out avenues to fire him without compensation and govt interference.

  9. FAZ don’t pay him for termination of contract. Give him a task for next 1 year such as national scout. At the end of a year say goodbye to him as failed coach! But I doubt if he will succeed in the new role given his style of picking bench warmers, injured players etc.kikikiki

  10. We do not play enough tournaments to develop and increase the national team pool of players. COSAFA is a great opportunity for exactly this. Yes for us fans we just want to see win after win and trophy after trophy but to get to a level to achieve this we need to build a foundation. It is absolutely useless to use only seasoned players in a tournament like COSAFA because then when will you identify new talent? When will you build on the pool of players and also aging players you have? Using seasoned players in a tournament like COSAFA is being absolutely short sighted. You can have a core of five seasoned players on the field but the other six should be fringe players. Just imagine if all the coaches were short sighted to only use seasoned players in Cosafa and CECAFA we would never have realized talents such as Chris Katongo and Justin Shonga. Its nice to win COSAFA but we have to realize we play extremely few tournaments that we can use to increase the national team talent pool as such we need to exploit tournaments like COSAFA for this purpose.

  11. @ BigSteve 4romRSA……what we are saying is Cosafa is welcome opportunity to build cohesion in main team in view of Afcom qualifiers just round the corner. In the absence of friendlies, this is a welcome filip! Therefore the Cosafa is this year strategically useful in our quest to polish the CHIPOs. The identification process can come later not now please Bane!
