Our ultimate ill now is failing to score – Kalusha

FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya has pointed at failure to score goals as the undoing for Zambian teams in major competitions which has seen the Zambia perform poorly at all levels this year.

According to a Times of Zambia report, Kalusha a clinical finisher in his time as a player stated that goal scoring is an art which is developed over time and does not come easily.

“If you analyze the whole year, we have had chances to win matches but we can’t put the ball behind the net. We are creating the chances but we just lack a good pass, good lay, good header, good finish and a strong foot behind the ball.

“Our ultimate ill now is failing to put the ball in the back of the net. Whether it’s to pass the ball or score we need to be more confident. Failing to score is eluding us at the moment. When you are in control of a match, the scoreboard should also show that you are in control,” he said.

“To score goals if you sit in front of a television you will be able to see how good goal scorers like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney and Radamel Falcao and others put balls behind the net in one mind.

“When they go on the pitch, they know that if I get one chance I need to put it away. It is an art we have to develop over the years because it does not come easy,” the 1988 African Footballer of the Year said.

Zambian football has started on rough in the year 2015 with the senior team exiting the AfCON in the first round, followed by another first round exit by the U17 and U20 teams at the junior AfCON before the U23 and Women’s teams were booted out of the All Africa Games race.

The poor results in the year so far have also extended to the clubs as both Zesco United and Power Dynamos exited the Champions League and Confederations Cup in the first round.

  1. Kalusha you and FAZ are the problem, how many coaches in Zambian teams go without salaries,? how many coaches also go on for months without official recognition or contracts, have we paid Patrice the French? How long did it take if at all you paid Renard? Do you pay players on time both boys and girls, do you put good logistics when travelling for international games? All these culminates into failure of football management in Zambia. Individual skills of players is just a bonus but a well oiled legs is likely to die a little for the sake of the country, team or club. Kalusha is good at tweeting proceedings of games in a comfort of wherever he lives he cant come and condemn the boys/girls for not scoring when the same kids it will take 3 months to be paid their appearance allowance. How do you send a coach to a very important continental tournament like AFCON without a contract? Even whilst there he was told ‘we are still reviewing’ how do you expect him to perform? Where is his motivation? Its high time we looked into our football problem introspectively start with FAZ. We dont need the president to summon him to explain whats really going on with Zambian football – No! what he needed to talk about is WHAT IS FAZ DOING RIGHT NOW to stop hemorrhage of Zambian football, what are the future plans if at all the bunch has future plans. I rest my case – the Jury whats the verdict?

  2. Why do you allow your FA Prez to domicile in SA?
I really dont believe a serious football nation like Naija or Gh will ever tolerate that.
Impeach him and find a leader with Zed at heart…….Are there no better apartments or residence in Lusaka?
Kalushaas a player was idolized in Gh but his admin side is an eyesore.
get a captain to rescue this sinking ship.

  3. POOR COACHING TECHNICS, WE HAVE THE MOST PATHETIC COACHES IN ZAMBIA.

JUST YESTERDAY JANZA WAS BOASTING THAT HE IS THE MOST QUALIFIED COACH IN AFRICA.
FORGETTING THAT DELIVERING IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THAN PAPER QUALIFICATION.
IF YOUR TEAM CAN’T SCORE GOALS TO WIN MATCHES THEN YOU ARE NOT FIT TO HANDLE A FOOTBALL TEAM, YOUR ARE FAILURE AS COACH PERIOD.

IN FACT JANZA SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT OF ZAMBIA’S FOOTBALL CIRCLES OR IS HE USING ‘JUJU’ TO HOLD ON TO THE POSITION, BECAUSE LWANDAMINA WHOM HE CHASED IS MUCH BETTER THAN HIM.

  4. You cant score a goal when you hold the ball for more than 5seconds,meaning you are allowing your opponents to close up and divert it. one of the worst strikers is sate sate, keeps the falls without releasing it for too long or pass.I don’t know what coaches instruct this players or just become spectators commenting on the line.please shape up ball holding and control.

  5. IN all levels of play from AFCON TO LATEST under 23,zambia has been let down by the blunt strikers throughout the competetions, kindly shape them up, ball control ball release and strike,a big problem.

        • I BELIEVE KALUSHA WAS GREAT AT HIS TIME, HENCE, HE WAS TAKEN AS THE HEAD OF ZAF.

HE IS USING PSYCHOLOGICALLY HIS LAURELLS AT THE TIME HE WAS GREAT HELPING ZED IN
          PROGRESSING ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL..

I GENUINLY BELIEVE HIS TIME IS GONE AND
HE MUST OR SHOULD TELL FAZ THAT ,, I VE
HELPED MY COUNTRY WHEN I WAS GREAT IN THE 90S, BEING A COACH TO MY COUNTRY AND A PLAYER ,, I CANT LIVE IN ZAMBIAN AND MANAGE THIS GREAT TEAM SO I AM LIVING IN SA FOR MY BISUNESS AND MY FAMILY SO –I HAVE RELINGUISH MY TITLE AS ZAF HEAD..THAT WILL BE GREAT AND RESPECTFULL TO ZAMBIAN PPL PERIOD..

THE CHIPOS PLAYERS HAVE SUMTIN TO SAY ABT THIS AND COME CLEAN OF MAKING A GOOD FOOTBALL COUNTRY..

***I BELIEVE KALU IS USING HIS GREAT LAURELS TO HUNG ON HIS TITLE AS ZED CHIEF.

  6. We are garbage and that is all. How do we allow an idiot like the current FAZ Chairman to come up with such comments? The same chainama mental case was on record saying no Zambian is qualified to coach the Senior National Team. How did Janza or Ja nsala get the job then? Tell us. Even creatures from the early Stone Age cannot behave like this. This is foolishness and total foolishness
Awe kwena ni pa zed. Just resign iwe Kolwe period

  7. 1.if the president is living in a different country, is that not our first problem?
    2. Youth program non-existent
    3. Poor local league
    4. Technical bench lacking
    5. Mental toughness of players -low
    6. Coaching – below standard
    7. Administration- very poor
Let us find solutions to some of these common problems

  8. I remember when Mr Kalusha played like he was born with the ball at his feet, when he scored that wonderful free kick at SA 96. I remember the fear I had for Zambian football when it became know he would play no more.
I remember when he became FAZ vice president, when he used his authority to hire himself as coach for Chipolopolo. I remember when he flopped as a coach and more recently, I remember the London fiasco, the parking lot training session in Kumasi and the trip down south to Joburg thousands of metres away and above sea level when afcon 2015 was to take place in coastal Equatorial Guinea.
I think Mr Kalusha you have done your part. Why don’t you focus on your CAF and FIFA career. I think Zambia no longer needs your services.

  9. even leaving in south africa i th main factor.how can a whole faz be leaving in south afrca when he knows very well he as to fix his house to order.how can he identify an solve th problems when he is living some were else outside of th country

  10. Perhaps we should consider ourselves lucky the FA president has taken time to say something at all.

Anyway, this is BS! Is that your proffesional opinion awe Kalu? Very technical, its garbage chat statement which could have come from anyone. Haha very technical.

Wake me up when this exective is leaving and there is an oportuntiy to develop football.

  11. Really shocking that the FA president can say this without even in the very least trying to qualify reasons why we are not scoring. Kalu I hope you read Zamfoot, everyone here except for Mukombwe wa Mafisa has said it like it is.

For the striker to score, he must be well trained, well rested when he goes to play, well compensated for delivery of his professional skills, compensated on time, etc. The end product of what you see on the field is a culmination of everything that has happened before he set foot on the field. How do you expect a player to deliver on the field when everything done before he touched the field was rubbish on account of the FA. A striker must go and score goals when he has come off training in a car park, really now!!!!
I take my hat off to the lads for even just qualifying for the last edition of the Afcon after all the pathetic preparations they went through like landing in Cape Verde hours before the game.

    • Did same in Ghana. Couldn’t therefore train on the field & some of us continue to blame Ghana for FIFA rules & regulations. Blame our own poor travel arrangements which keeps the boys tired & therefore cannot perform their utmost best. FAZ IS THE PROBLEM.

  12. I have tried my best to ignore our downward spiral but this is getting to ridiculous levels now. The only comment from people appointed to administer our football about our recent failures on all levels of football both men and women is that we are failing to score!!!! Can you please stand aside, because you have failed Mr FAZ president. Failure after Failure after Failure. The proof of proper football administration is on the pitch. Based on the performance of all our football teams both men and women in 2015, this FAZ admin should be fired or fire themselves. He is now even transferring the blame to the players. The same players who are not paid or are paid peanuts.

  13. The problem here is not about players not scoring goals. The problem is bigger than on the field of play. The problem is you, Kalusha, and your fellow corrupt FAZ executive. Thats all.

  14. It is only in Zambia that the FA president lives in a different country. I suggest the next FA president live on the moon so that he/she will see everything happening below. THIS IS JUST UNFATHOMABLE. Where on earth will people tolerate this? This can never happen in Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal or even Gambia. Please, let us come together to solve this simple issue once & for all. “ZAMBIAN FA PRESIDENT SHOULD/MUST/OUGHT TO/IS REQUIRED to be domiciled in Zambia. Place of residence = ZAMBIA. No more, no less.

  15. you see its like the president saying my country is poor man thats your job to fix it KALU WAS VOTED TO FIND SOLUTIONS TO OUR SCORING WOES or is he telling us that he failed in which case we should find ourselves another FAZ president?

    • Mulenga Pulu. I am not a fan of the Kalu administration, but this idea that the FAZ President can fix Zambia’s scoring problems is crazy.

Our best scorers in the national team are Mayuka, Christopher Katongo, Collins Mbesuma. Mayuka chose to go to England where he has played less minutes than you would get with K5 of talk time. Chris Katongo chose to get into a battle of words with the coach and is also now in the PSL where he is barely playing any games or scoring goals. Mbesuma has managed 5 goals in an entire season.

Then you call these guys up to the national team and expect them to somehow put the ball in the back of the net. How is this a FAZ created problem? Personal decision by players and their careers are whats affecting the national team. You get a coach who decides to pick players based on form, and then you get upset that he is taking small boys. Lets be fair and thoughtful about our expectations on the FAZ admin. They are terrible organizers and logistical planners, but faulting them for our scoring woes is a little far fetched.

  16. POSITIVE THINKING:How can we fix scoring problems?we can hire and train coaches to work on strikers,we can can intensify our talent identification programmes,we promote scoring by other incentives like a 1000 per goal scored for strikers etc all these things ITS FAZ AND MR KALUSHA WHO HAVE TO IMPLEMENT really if KALU cant then why is he in his position great teams arent made by accident but by meticulous leadership SO YES THE FAZ PRESIDENT HAS A DUTY TO FIX OUR SCORING PROBLEMS

    • Mulenga, incentives for goals should be in players contracts. The league offers cash for the top goal scorer.

You are really taking the responsibilities of the clubs and placing them on the FA which is not the duty of the Football Association. The duty of FAZ should be to create an environment where clubs and players can prosper. I agree that introducing a junior team league as those that exist in Europe would be important. More investment in Youth Programs, I always talk about the Ministry of Education and SPorts joining forces to create a league structure for schools.

Kalusha and FAZ do not have to train coaches to be better, they have to meet a CAF mandate to ensure qualification of coaches. It is the clubs to ensure they get quality coaches and if not that, they make sure their coaches are trained to be quality coaches. You need to hold these club chairmen accountable. Clubs are playing poorly and we sit and blame FAZ, but have you asked what these clubs are doing to improve. Look at the coaches in Zambia; you have the same names floating around as was the case 10 years ago. How can we learn anything new? How many of these coaches have been sent on attachment by their clubs? How many of these coaches are actually evolving. The retired players coming up in the coaching ranks are just copy pasting the same things they are been taught by the same faces. Let’s put this on the clubs; FAZ should not be in the business of running teams.

  17. I STILL BELIEVE WE HAVE ALOT TALENT ITS THE TALENT IDENTIFICATION AND DEVELOPMENT PROCESSES THAT FAILING USN IN SHORT KALU SIMPLE!in as far as Iam concerned our biggest undoing in Zambian football IS FAILED LEADERSHIP

  18. POSITIVE THINKING:I agree with you and further I think FAZ has not done its homework in as far as TALENT IDENTIFICATION

  19. POSITIVE THINKING:I agree with you and further I think FAZ has not done its homework in as far as TALENT IDENTIFICATION particularly in far flang areas we need to put systems in place ZAMBIA IS NOT ONLY ALONG THE LINE OF RAIL I believe we can find some good strikers in my village in chinsali or in Mongu or in sesheke but we dont have systems to notice such talent AND YES ITS FAZS JOB TO PUT EM IN PLACE
