Our aim is a win – Obino Chisala

Zambia National team midfielder Obino Chisala says the Chipolopolo Boys are eying a win against Niger on Sunday.

The Chipolopolo will welcome the Ménas at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday in their final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Zambia are coming off a narrow 1-0 away win over Tanzania, a result, Chisala feels has given them the confidence ahead of the Ménas clash.

“First for this game is that we are just aiming to win, that’s the only thing that we want because if we win this game maybe we might qualify for the playoff for the World Cup,” he said.

“The game we played against Tanzania gave us confidence so that as we are playing the next game we have that confidence that we can win because it’s not easy playing an away game and you collect maximum points. This is the last game as we are playing and for us as Zambians we always aim to finish the group in a strong momentum so that we know that in as we were coming into the next camp we have that clear picture that at least we won two games and the confidence is very high and the morale is very high in the camp so that’s a good picture for us.”

Chisala has called in the Chipolopolo fans to troop to Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday in huge numbers as he assured them of a positive result.

Chisala has been played at left back in the past  but in Tanzania he was redeployed to his usual midfield role – but he is not worried about that as he feels a player should be ready to play at any position he is asked to play by the coach.

“It will help us a lot when we talk of team bonding. This is a time where we can bond as a team, know each other very well and boost the level of confidence of each and individual players. Thank you for coming for the last game even though we disappointed you but this time we are assuring you that we’ll collect maximum points so you can come like you did last time we will assure you that we’ll collect maximum points,” he said.

“I would say if you are a player you just need to be ready yeah you just need to be ready even as they play you as a defender or as a midfielder you just have to be ready because you’re doing it for the badge you just have to be prepared in each and every match they give you and give it your level best.”

The Copper Bullets and Ménas will square off at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium at 15h00 with tickets already on sale at ShopRite stores countrywide via Computicketing.
