Zambia U20 Women’s National Team forward Mary Mbewe says there is no easy team at the ongoing COSAFA U20 Women’s Championship and that the Young Copper Queens will have to work hard in all their games.
Mbewe revealed that coach Charles Haalubono told the team to work together for the team to get a win over South Africa on Wednesday.
The ZESCO Ndola Girls striker believes the team needs to listen to what the coach is telling them and apply that on the pitch as they face Botswana on Friday.
“The game went well, we worked as a team. The coach told us that we needed to work together for us to win. We are feeling happy as a team. We knew it would be a tough game so we had to work as a team,” She said.
“Against Botswana we also need to work together and listen to what the coach is telling us. We have to apply that on the pitch. There is no easy team in this tournament.”
The pacey forward was named the player of the match after a fantastic performance. A number of fans came out to praise her and she is grateful for the love she has received.
“I am grateful to everyone who loved my performance, I had to work hard as a captain. This was my first time captaining the team,” Mbewe told the ZamFoot Crew.
The Young Copper Queens thrashed Lesotho 9-0 in their opening match on Tuesday before beating rivals South Africa 3-0.
Zambia now just needs wins over Botswana and Mozambique to win their first COSAFA U20 Women’s Championship title.
