Nkandu urges fans to be at their best behavior during the Niger gameĀ

The government has urged football fans to be on their best behaviour as they cheer Chipolopolo in the Group E FIFA World Cup encounter against Niger at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Chipolopolo will take on Niger as both teams battle to end the qualification on a high and finish second on the log.

Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu, who toured the stadium on Saturday morning, called on the fans to turn up in numbers and maintain good behaviour as they cheer the team.

“Please, make sure that you do not destroy, what you have suffered for,” he said, “I want to appeal to the soccer fans that as we even play this game today, please we should avoid throwing missiles in the stadium, let us just cheer,”

The minister said the fans should back the team and help Chipolopolo finish strong.

“Let us cheer for our boys, we should fill this stadium so that we can help these boys to finish strong,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nkandu confirmed that the replacement of the playing turf at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium is on the cards.

“We have a programme, after Heroes [Stadium] then we are coming to Levy because we couldn’t do everything at one time.ā€

“We were systematic by starting with [the replacement of the turf at] Heroes, when Heroes is done the games will be shifted to Lusaka as we now start replacing the turf at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium obvious in the near future.ā€

Heroes Stadium is currently closed for renovation with Levy Mwanawasa being the only certified venue by CAF and FIFA.
