Mwila expecting a tough test against Malawi

Zambia Women’s National Team Assistant Coach Florence Mwila is expecting a tough game this afternoon when her team faces Malawi for a slot in the final.

Mwila believes it will be a tricky encounter against the defending Champions who have a very good side.

Zambia has given chances to all the 23 players in the opening two games but Mwila does not think it will give her a headache to choose the starting eleven to face Malawi.

She believes all the players will perform when called upon and not just those who will be in the starting line up.

“Well it’s a bit tricky knowing that they have a good side , their best team (obviously with the exclusion of the seven players) but that’s their best team, ours is a new team. They are playing for the first time most of them but I think they have acclimatised very well playing together in the last two games. It’s not going to be an easy one, it’s going to be tough but it’s something we need to plan well which we have done and just to continue encouraging and pushing the girls, boost their confidence because they need it for this game , they need to know they are facing a tough opponent but they are also a good side if they just put in their best something good will come out of it,” Mwila told the ZamFoot Crew.

“Not really much of a headache, it’s good that everyone accounted well for themselves, and now we know who is who and which are the ones we can make to be in the first eleven for the semifinal. Even those who will not start we are confident that when given a chance they will be able to deliver.”

“Yes, we obviously have to start with our strongest side based on how the players played in the two games, definitely approaching a game and an opponent like Malawi, you need to have your strongest side. This does not mean those who won’t start are not strong but you can only have eleven players at a time,” she added.

Mwila says the team is confident and excited to face the defending Champions for a slot in the final.

“We are confident, I am confident and the players are confident. It’s important to be confident as a leader so they follow through as well, everyone is confident, we are ready, they are excited and looking forward to facing Malawi because most of them have never faced Malawi,” she said.

The Copper Queens will be looking to build on their impressive group stage performances, which saw them advance to the semi-finals with remarkable wins over Angola (3-0) and Comoros (7-0) when they face Malawi at noon.

Semi-final one will kick off at 12h00 CAT at Wolfson stadium and will be broadcast live on SuperSport, TopStar, the COSAFA YouTube Channel, and FIFA+.
