The match was the second round of the Primera Federación, a third tier in the Spanish league system.

Mwepu was on fire in the first 45 minutes scoring the opener in the 25th minute and doubled the lead just two minutes later.

Sanluqueno however gave away the 2-0 lead to settle for a point.

Daniel Sandoval Fernandez cut Sanluqueno’s lead in half from the penalty spot in the 31st minute.

Jose Borrela then levelled matters at the death to earn Mérida a point.

Mwepu is at Sanluqueño on a season long loan from Spanish La Liga side Cádiz CF.

The 23 year old is on a long term contract at Cadiz and will stay in Andalusia until 2026.

Prior to his move to Spain, Mwepu spent two seasons at Austrian Bundesliga side, SK Puntigamer Sturm Graz.

He was an influential member of the Zambia Under-20 side between December 2017 and December 2019 helping the team to a COSAFA U-20 title in 2019 as the teams top goalscorer.

Mwepu who is the younger brother to medically retired Chipolopolo former captain, Enock Mwepu made his La Liga debut on matchday 36 last season against Villarreal.

He played 28 games with Mirandilla (Cadiz CF Youth team)  and scored seven goals one of which came against Atlético Sanluqueño CF at the Ciudad Deportiva.
