Having joined Zesco united seven years ago in 2013, Mwape Mwelwa has gone on to establish himself as a senior member of the Zesco United playing squad.
Zesco United currently lead the log with 14 points from the eight games played so far. Zesco is hoping to get back to the winning way and clinch their ninth FAZ Super League title to their name.
With new fresh blood of players injected into the team and a proven winner, Numba Mumamba at the helm, Zesco united is hoping to finish top this season.
After a mixed start to the season, they seem to have stabilized and have picked up four points from the possible six in the last two games.
One player who has been so supportive to the young lads Zesco united has brought to the fore to ensure a smooth transition of playing powers to make sure the club keeps running and competing at the top level is Mwape Mwelwa fondly called Tozizi.
His playing time at the club has been limited with Zesco united having to bring new young talent into the team. He has been relegated to the bench for most of the time to pave way for young talent.
He however happy to be part of the senior team and start on the bench, he says he has run his race and he wants to groom young ones whom Zesco united has brought to the team.
He wants to impart knowledge to them. He says this is the right time to do so when he is still playing as it provides a better platform for him to teach a little he has acquired during his playing career as he can play with them and they can be able to pick out two things from what he can do in the field of play when they see him play so that they achieve what he has accomplished or even better his record.
The ZamFoot Crew were in Ndola and caught up with him. He was asked if he will be seen having much game time this season
“I am patiently waiting for a chance. you know we have good young players coming up and they are doing fine so as a senior player I’m trying to encourage and guide them not to derail but when an opportunity comes you will surely see what I can do,” he said.
“This season I will take it as it comes but the big one for me is to be champions of the season so that I make it six. I have won it five times with Zesco, it feels good to be on the podium.”
He also went on to say that he doesn’t see himself playing football five years from now as he has already started preparing for life after football. He desires to be a coach one day.
“Five years is too much because I am slowly preparing myself for life after football. I have the desire to be a coach but will see going forward,” he said.
