Zambian midfielder Golden Mafwenta has been named the BETERA Belarusian Premier League Player of the Week for Matchweek 16 following a sensational display in Naftan Novopolotsk’s thrilling 3-3 draw away to Dnieper Mogilev.
The Chipolopolo international delivered a man-of-the-match performance, registering two assists and a stoppage-time equaliser to inspire Naftan to a dramatic comeback and earn a perfect 10/10 rating.
Naftan fell behind in the 15th minute when Sergey Rusak headed the hosts into the lead, but Mafwenta responded by setting up Vadim Yakovlev to restore parity in the 27th minute.
Dnieper regained the advantage in the 56th minute after Kirill Kirilenko converted from the penalty spot following a foul inside the area.
Mafwenta was again at the heart of Naftan’s response, providing the assist for Marlen Aymanov, whose superb long-range strike levelled the contest in the 63rd minute.
The hosts looked set to claim all three points when Kirill Tsepenkov unleashed a stunning effort from outside the box to make it 3-2 with 17 minutes remaining.
However, Mafwenta had the final say. Deep into stoppage time, the former Zambia Under-20 midfielder arrived in the right place to convert from close range and rescue a deserved point for Naftan.
His outstanding all-round display earned him the BETERA Belarusian Premier League Player of the Week award, capping an influential performance in which he was directly involved in all three of his side’s goals.
