FAZ vice-president Boniface Mwamelo says the association will maintain Honour Janza as Chipolopolo trainer despite the team’s early ejection from the Africa Cup of Nations.
In an interview yesterday, Mwamelo said Janza met his benchmark of qualifying the team to AfCON and the association would not backtrack on its word to give him a contract.
“Despite the team’s early exit at the AfCON, we will give Janza a contract because the performance indicators we gave him were met; he qualified the team to Africa Cup, so the issue of his contract was already sealed even before the AfCON,” Mwamelo said.
He said the only issues that needed to be ironed out with the government were the duration of the contract and remuneration.
Janza took charge of Chipolopolo last August following the departure of Frenchman Patrice Beaumelle, who joined his compatriot Herve Renard, as assistant coach of Ivory Coast.
Renard is said to have been getting K127,000 monthly during his tenure as Chipolopolo coach.
FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya promised Janza a contract after he qualified the team to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Janza raised the issue of his contract shortly before the team left for the tournament in Equatorial Guinea last month, but many criticised the timing of his concerns.
Janza has a record of 12 games at the helm of Chipolopolo with four wins, three defeats and five draws.

poor record let him be an Assistant again till after 2018 World Cup. This is the only Association in our history that hand pick coaches. Why not just advertise and tell prospective applicants to make proposals on how they will fit into our small pay! Period.
Janza deserves a second chance, with time I see our national team performing well and winning games convincingly.2017 and there after Chipolopolo will be a great force to reckon with.I just hope that Mayuka and fwayo can find clubs where the talents will be appreciated because they need good game time.
Zambia will not even qualify for Afcon 2017 with Janza at the helm. My heart bleeds for Zambia.
Zambia will not even qualify for Afcon 2017 with Janza at the helm. My heart bleeds for Zambia. The two countries in the final both have expatriate coaches. It says something.
Janza does not deserve the Job. Show us his CV including his recent performance. Your are giving him that job because you do not care about the source of funds and the plight of soccer lovers. That job is supposed to be advertised just like what other associations worldwide do. Why is it that even the most strong teams in the world do advertise and engage expatriates for such jobs. That coach of yours failed because of bad planning, lack of experience, leaving out strikers for the one favoured by the FAZ president. We won’t go anywhere with Janza.
The main problem is the Zambian government. They do not want to pay the coach. If other African countries have done it we can also do it with good management.
Am sorry, may be because between 1992 and 1999 I was out of the country, can somebody please tell me which team Janza played for ?
Hmmm! Interesting indeed. Bushe bane when is the next FAZ elections mwe banthu mwe?
Guys, I have to say that AFCON 2015 was not good for Zambia, but it was by no means the end of the world. Janza has put together a good blend of experience and youth. The team steadily improved during the qualifiers and with a new generation of stars coming up from the U17 and U20, the upward trajectory should continue.
@Positive brace yourself for more mediocre performance. There is only one direction Zambia is going. DOWN!
Bon The decision by FAZ is fully supported. The early exit of the team is really not a true reflection of how our team played and you do not sack a coach because the strikers missed a myriad of chances. Building a football team is not a ‘stroke of the pen’ strategy but rather a process. Talk about ways of how our league can be made to be more competitive as that is where Janza is getting the players for the national team from. He cannot, therefore, get any better players than what is available in our current league.
What we need now is to adequately prepare our under 17 and 20 teams so that they can possibly qualify to the World cup junior tournaments. Sadly, our preparations for these junior team have not been adequate in the sense that we have not had any serious preparations and this is where we keep on losing continuity. We have not done much in terms of preparations to make these boys excel and yet we are highly expectant. We cannot be banking on luck all the time.
These bunch of criminals at FAZ have no heart or desire what so ever for ZAMBIAN football. Our football is a mess because of these characters. Honour JANZA is a pathetic coach. Lets get a coach with pedigree and a good and proven track record. Time for experiments is long gone. We want results now. We need a tactician and a great thinker of football. Look at GHANA, they have brought an experienced coach; A great thinker and tactician of the game and the results and level of their football is there for all to see!
I hope Zambia continues to do horrible so that Kalusha Bwalya and his corrupt f00ls can be out of Faz. At this point I would rather see a baboon lead Faz than this morons at FAZ. I hope the players can be rebellious towards this coach and his FAZ corrupt fools and the results continue to go down. Kalu needs to be jailed for his corruption. I don’t even know what the newly elected gov’t is waiting for, this is the guy that just gave HH $20,000 in order to get a sports minister position so he cover continue to steal from the Zambian people pretending to be developing the game. This Kalu stinks of theft all over him and he got corruption written all over his forehead. The right thing to do was to move Janza to junior teams and get us a coach that will drill Zambia to be a powerhouse not this pathetic team.
The very least that soccer fans in Zambia deserve is a coach who underwent normal procedure of applying for the job, being interviewed alongside other candidates before being offered a contract. Is it just me who thinks FAZ is turning into another FIFA where no one dares to question Mr Blatter?
For FAZ to say Janza met the performance indicators which they gave him (meaning qualifying the team to Afcon 2015) is alarmingly naive and most humiliating. We are talking 2012 AFCON winners here. We are talking a nation who qualifying for Afcon has never been an issue. Must we remind the whole FAZ that we are past the stage of being mere qualifiers to Afcon? Shouldn’t we be showing more ambition by recruiting a more seasoned coach? Zambia’s reputation is such that many seasoned coaches would jump at the prospect of leading this team. Any talk of expenses that go with a hiring a more credible coach can be negotiated if only we had leadership that has Zambia at heart.
Exactly and thank you for bringing that up Paddy. The question is who is Zambia is ready contest this FAZ election? And we as fans and bloggers, what are we going to do to help out and make sure that Kalu is ousted? Lets make a difference.
@TC soccerman I feel so sad for our country man.
Janza is not good enough to continue as coach the team he selected for afcon 2015 was below par
It was agreed that if u qualify the team to 2015 africa cup of nations a contract will be given to u. So that is exactly the faz has done
Some people think our national team is their virneyerd ai? How can a normal human being with senses alafwala netoloshi think of maintaing Janza, people we are nt serious Kalu is a joker.
Faz needs to be formated any human animal in Faz starting with uyu wine president should be flashed out.We are tired of you bakolwe imwe chopeti!!!!!
Zambian football is trouble and the earlier we realize this the better. We are back to square one like those years we were booted out at group stage year after year. 2013, group stage, 2015 group stage, 2017 group stage. it is in this direction we are heading, but some being Zambians do not want to and accept this. You Janza 1 million dollars a month, or move him to live in State House, he will still a failure?? He has no qualities to be National Coach just like ka boss ka kwe thought he could coach and only swindled the Govt of money. It is the same here. Kalusha Bwalya has outlived his usefulness as far as Zambian football is concerned, but because he once played in Europe he is untouchable pa Zed
We have very good u17/20 teams, but with the poor management we will not reach our intended targets. Mala administration of Zambian football is now the order of the day. It is very shameful indeed
The problem is that in Zambia we accept anything, whether wrong. We are too much not direct when we address issues. Humbleness my black ass. We stand up and demand for our rights period
I rest my case
You can pay Janza
The fact is that Janza does not qualify to be National coach and the idiot knows this very well, but there he goes to sign a contract just for his stomach. It is being foolish to accept a job you very well know you can not live up to its demands. He thinks coaching the National team is like standing in a bottle store or ZCBC.
Janza just admit and find something else to feed your drum. Oh my God lyonse fye ni few, iyo kwena twali tipwa fye mwe
