Zambia striker Kingstone Mutandwa scored for the second time in as many games but could not prevent Servette from losing 3-2 away to Young Boys in the Swiss Super League on Saturday.
Mutandwa put Servette 2-0 ahead after 30 minutes, cutting inside before beating Young Boys goalkeeper Marvin Keller with a precise finish into the far corner.
The goal was the 24-year-old’s third in five appearances since joining Servette and continues an encouraging start to his time in Switzerland.
Servette appeared in control after Mutandwa’s goal, but Young Boys fought back through Alan Virginius, who reduced the deficit to 2-1 shortly before half-time.
Samuel Essende then levelled for the hosts in the 69th minute, converting the rebound after goalkeeper Edvinas Gertmonas had saved Alvyn Sanches’ initial effort.
Essende completed the turnaround with his second goal of the afternoon in the 83rd minute, heading in from Edin Etoski’s corner to give Young Boys a 3-2 victory in front of 24,370 spectators at the Wankdorf Stadium.
The defeat leaves Servette to reflect on a match in which they surrendered a two-goal advantage, while Young Boys extended their unbeaten start to nine league games.
Mutandwa, who previously played for Atletico Lusaka, will now turn his attention to international duty after being named in Zambia interim coach George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina’s squad for the back-to-back 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria and Togo.
The Chibombo-born forward will be hoping to carry his club form into the Chipolopolo camp as Zambia prepare to face Algeria away on 25 September before hosting Togo in Ndola four days later.
