Munthali gets late call to Chipolopolo camp

Nkana defender Christopher Munthali has received a late call up to the provisional squad of the Zambia National Football Team.

Acting head coach Wedson Nyirenda confirmed to fazfootball.com that Munthali had been recalled following a review of his performance for Nkana in the Barclays Cup semi-final against Zanaco on Saturday.

“Munthali will join us once we have finalised the formalities of sending a release letter to his club,” said Nyirenda.

The defender has not been invited to the national team since January when he was part of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) squad in Rwanda.

He will join 23 other players in Lusaka in preparing for next month’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Group B qualifier with Cameroon.

  1. Very good. I hope you call all the best players for this game. Why is Chris katongo not in the team if he still plays football?
We need you to beat Cameroun or atleast get away with a draw.

Meanwhile this ia what Nigeria’s attack looks like now

    Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City)
    Alex Iwobi (Arsenal)
    Mikel Obi (Chelsea)
    Victor Moses (Chelsea)
    Ahmed Musa (leicester city)
    Odion Ighalo (Watford)
    Isaac Success (Watford)
    Simon Moses (Gents)

Nigeria is on a path to revival once again. Pray for us to get there

  2. Mr Nyirenda This Is A Must Win For Us So We Dont Need Falias In The Team, Pliz Drop Adrian Chama Before Its Too Late. The Guy Coasted As 3 Points At Home.

  3. BRAVO COACH! IT HAS BEEN LONG OVER DUE,ITS REALLY A GOOD CALL UP.WE HAVE BEEN CRYING FOR MUNTHALI’S CALL UP FOR TOO LONG.HE WILL PARTNER VERY WELL WITH SUNZU.CAMEROON ARE TALL AND ITS GOOD TO HAVE SUNZU AND MUNTHALI IN THE BACK.NOW FULFILL OUR CRIES BY INCLUDING CHRIS KATONGO AND JOSEPH MUSONDA.WE NEED THEM TOO.

  4. Very good. Why is Chris Katongo not called up if he still plays football? We need you to beat Camoroun for us or atleast come through with a draw.

  5. I still think Kondwani Mtonga should play alongside Sunzu in central defense. Central defenders need to have a bit of a midfielders thinking meaning they have the skill and intelligence to make the through pass or precise long ball pass to trigger an attack. Gone are the days of just clearing the ball. We don’t have a box to box midfielder these days so we need the central defense pairing to be able to kick start an attack when in possession and the opponents are still in our half. I see this in Mtonga but not in Munthali. Had we won the Nigeria game we could use Munthali as first choice would be to get a draw but with us now needing 3 points we need attack football with a solid defense.

  6. Watching the Highlands Vs Supersport game it worried me how Morgan Gould was able to mark Mbesuma out of the game for the full 90 minutes to a point Mbesuma only had one shot at goal. Yes Morgan is an intelligent defender but should this be the case in Cameroon we need to create a situation were Mbesuma can inter swap with the supporting striker to create an option for him not to be marked out of the game.

    • GOOD OBSERVATION,I THINK YOU ARE RIGHT AND BY NOW EVERY ONE KNOWS THAT ITS NO NEWS THAT JAMES CHIMANGA IS THE LEADING TOP SCORER IN THE CHINESE SECOND DIVISION.THEREFORE WE NEED HIM TO PARTNER MBESUMA UPFRONT.MIND YOU,CAMEROON ARE STUDYING THE VIDEO FOR THE MATCH BETWEEN ZAMBIA AND NIGERIA AND BELIEVE ME MBESUMA WILL HIGHLY BE MARKED JUST AS WE EXPECT FWAYO TEMBO TO BE TIGHTLY MARKED BECAUSE THESE ARE THE TWO PLAYERS THAT WERE OUTSTANDING IN THAT GAME.SO TO BRING IN CHAMANGA AND KATONGO WILL CONFUSE THE ENERMIES GAME PLAN AND THUS COLLECT MAXIMUM POINTS.

      • I propose a testimonial for Chamanga and Katongo. wonder why we still don’t officially announce retirement from the national team.

      • Chamanga actually plays in the Chinese premier league not second division….but I agree with you he is currently sitting second on the log in China together with Demba Ba on 14 goals 3 behind the league top scorer Ricardo. He definitely deserves a call up going by his current goal scoring form. Yes a few people will say lets move on and so on but we currently don’t have consistent goal scorers. Its only Mbesuma and Kalaba. we need to compliment this as football is only won by goals, nothing else.

  7. Nkana lost 4 – 0 and Munthali was just chasing shadows. I thought the coach will call Aubrey Funga from Zanaco after a good show. Wada is a disappoint. Call Lawrence Phiri from Angola or You can still use Joseph Musonda to partner Sunzu.

  8. I’m hearing a lot of Chris and Isaac, those with the privilege of watching the Zambian premiership games, please furnish us with some detail on their performances in the league. Are they giving performances worthy of callus or are we basing these calls on past glory.

    • The two players calls to be included in the team is justified. Chris still has footballing brains and brings leadership in the team. Chanya has also resurrected at Zanaco to an extent of scoring some crucial goals. The two would bring stability to the team.

  9. So the talk of an expatriate coach is over then? Wadda is in a must win situation against Cameroon and will need all the help he can get.

Friendlies are important and also team selection. Biggest area that needs addressing is who will partner Sunzu and who will partner Sinkala in midfield.

Also, I hope Wadda is watching the Cameroon games in preparation for the this match.

  10. I believe a draw wouldn’t be a better result 4 both teams so am expecting an attacking game. So chisamba and kalengo shud not start they r too slow we need kangwa&mbesuma (9 or10) and chota or chansa (8), fwayo (7) kalaba (11). Defence off course leave out that chama guy, either mtonga or munthali.#Thanks

    • I also think Lubambo should be called. He and Fwayo could do justice to that wing. Fwayo was on point but it seemed he could not carry 90 minutes so Lubambo would be perfect to replace him should he show signs of not carrying 90 minutes again.

      • Problem Lubambo has no end product. He will run along that wing until he runs out of pitch, then hold his head. How many crosses do we get from his wing when he is playing? Charles Zulu even delivers better ( he is actually in the team)

  11. Ok. I have been saying lets give this executive room to operate, but I think this is now laziness abena Ponga !

You all fought Simaata when he offered to bring his administrative experience to the association, would this have been the state of affairs had he been Chief Executive?

  12. I have always said this Kamanga’s executive Agenda was to take great Kalu out of office period. The guys are clueless. No under 17, No Afcon, world cup kaya if at all we will win any game. Maybe by the grace of the lord. This guys are failures. Ponga and his big nose Kamanga abash after yo term period!

  13. It’s good that FA president has his own opinion on widening the selection of players before the next qualifier match, local to be in particularly. Hey am in class ba admin please give us news or gossip please

  14. MY OPINION:Mbola is not a good defender,he can’t mark the phisycal Cameroon players. Joseph Musonda yes.Kangwa has never impressed when called to the national team.On Munthali he is a strong defender, but at the moment, he needs more physical training, coz in the game against Zanaco, it was evident that he was lacking game time at Nkana.
