Jesse Were brace helps Zesco sink Red Arrows

Zesco United on Tuesday afternoon showed that they mean business in their quest to  catch up with log leaders Zanaco when they beat Red Arrows 4 – 1 in a reschedule match played at Nkoloma stadium.

In what was a dress rehearsal for the epic match on Saturday against Zanaco that will be played at Sunset Stadium, the champions led by a Jesse Were penalty goal at half time but turned the heat on the hosts in the second half.

Clatous Chama netted a second before Were completed his brace.

Idris Mbombo also put his name on the score sheet before substitute Francis Kombe scored a face saver from the spot in the dying minutes.

Zesco who have 7 games in hand remain in fourth position 4 points behind 3rd placed Power Dynamos and 15 points behind Zanaco.

Zesco will hope to maintain the momentum when they meet Zanaco on Saturday in a game that could give an indication where the title will go this season.

Zanaco have played 5ore games than Zesco.

    • ba Ndola or whoever has data, please update us on the midweek Gomes vs Kitwe United resheduled game played Wedensday19th october 2016 in Div 1 zone 2 delayed fixture ? waiting to know if Blades are stil on top or have Kitwe has taken th etop spot again .

  1. One wonders what has happened to Bruce Musakanya and Festus Mbewe lately ; they were in tip top form not too long ago but seems to have
really found it hard to impress after displaying what looked like the players to watch in the local league ! hope they could rediscover their form (the sooner, the better for the their career) .

    • Very good point Mumbi. Very sad how players seem to peak and then disappear in the local league. I definitely rated Bruce Musakanya, but not Festus Mbewe, though the young man seemed to have a knack for scoring goals by simply being in the right place at the right time.

  2. Guys, I know we didn’t qualify, but since we all love soccer I think there needs to be talk about this AFCON draw.

This AFCON is really stacked with some of the best teams on the continent. Looking forward to watching some really good games.

Group A: Gabon, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Guinea Bissau

Group B: Algeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Zimbabwe

Group C: Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Morocco, Togo

Group D: Ghana, Mali, Egypt, Uganda

Ghana are always exciting to watch, so too is Algeria. Let’s not forget Herve and his white shirt will now face his old team Ivorycoast; big question is “can he deliver another championship?”

There is also a very exciting DRC team, and the resurgent Egypt. Then also look forward to seeing how Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Guinea Bissau will handle the pressure of being underdogs. How I wish Zambia was there, but hey bola ni bola.

I would have bet my money on Algeria, but they have a tendency to fall apart when they play outside of North Africa. I am going to do some serious thinking before I pick a possible winner mwe.

    • Am one of those who generally did not think (believe) mr Kamanga was the better of the two candidates at FAZ aGM but the truth is he is the FAZ boss now . Aiming the Cosafa (or is it reaching quarterfinals at the games is PART of the rebuilding that Wada wada may be referring to using the World Cup qualifiers !!!!!!) .Rome was not built in a day ( for one, so far it seems he is slowly getting to realise that it is easier said than done or is it a question of having illequipped support staff at Football house.

For me some priority areas, capacity building for referees , improved management skills (capacity) for Club administrators, an all inclusive local Cup competition and a more transparent recruitment process for crucial positions at technical and administrative level just to name a few . Of course, needless to add, proper preseason stadia inspections
(including maintenance of venues such as Levy Mwanawasa stadium) .

  3. Mumbi there is nothing like Rome was not built in a day. We already have a team, good players pa ZED. Problem is with the people at the football house. Like i have said Kamanga and Ponga are clueless the only agenda they had is to remove great Kalu from the football house.Check now were our game is going. Shame!

    • Ok lets throw a few toys out of the window for a bit on this issue of berating Kamanga.I am a die hard supporter of my beloved chipolopolo but I will not blind myself with my support. I was reading a story on Gordon Ingesund just yesterday and he explained what happened with the Zambia job. Like we all know Edgar Chagwa Lungu as head of government, the institution that pays our national team coach, basically threw out the issue of hiring a foreign coach. Now we all know that our local coaches don’t have the technical capability of taking a team to the world cup, so my question to you is….who is to blame for the mediocre coaching we will get which will make it a miracle for us to pull out of this group and qualify.
Secondly you speak of good players, what are you rating the quality of players against? I mean if we had quality players we would have a string of players in Europe wouldn’t we? Our best defender cant even command a first team spot in France. We only have two players who command first team spots in the PSL. Overseas only Mbola commands a regular first team spot. Is this problem of quality or lack thereof a problem of Kamanga’s?

I don’t want to be a wet blanket but lets be factual and see the problem for what it is rather than just blame Kamanaga and Ponga.

      • Eish, mwalasa mudala. I held my tongue on the issue, because people think I support Kamanga. The President’s statement has now become gospel based on one game he watched in which the team lost. Suddenly the President is a football expert…anyway let me not get drawn into that.

Wadda is a good coach by Zambian standards, but he is being setup to fail. He does not have the talent pool that any of his predecessors had. He is also not technically or tactically ready for this level of engagement. The idea of having him as an assistant and then blooding him for the position made more sense. Yet it is all going to be Kamanga’s fault. Even failure to qualify for AFCON (when 7 of 8 games had already been played under the previous admin) or the Nike contract (when Zambia had no contract for 2 years prior to his arrival). This admin has been given a boat load of problems, and yet people are so blinded they can’t give them adequate opportunity, space, or even support to do their jobs. If any of us care about Zambian football, then we all know we need one of two things.

        – A coach who can deliver OR
        – Give Wadda the support he needs to succeed (Friendlies, funding, camping the team, better training program)

  4. And now this! All this is happening because of visionless, selfish people at Football House!

Zambia has dropped two places down the FIFA rankings and are not very far from their all-time low placing on the charts.
Chipolopolo slipped from 90th to 92nd in the World following their 2-1 home loss to Nigeria on October 9 in the two sides opening 2018 FIFA World Cup Group B qualifiers.
Without a favorable friendly results, if they can secure any before the next rankings are announced on November 24, and another defeat on November 12 away to Cameroon, the downward trend is set to continue for Zambia.
Nigeria on the other hand gained four places up the FIFA rankings after the win rising from 64 to 60.
Zambia’s lowest ranking was in February 2011 when they fell from 81 to 101 in the World.
Botswana currently sit at number 101.

    • FIFA ranking is only good when you are going into a draw because your position on the ranks helps determine quality of opposition you will meet in qualifiers. After the draws have been done these rankings become useless truth be told. They really hold no value at this stage. We are not going to Afcon and our world cup group is already determined so whats the point of focusing on the ranking.

    • Actually Wesu, Big Steve makes very good points. Rather than doubt his intelligence; you should showcase why you think he is wrong.

  5. I STILL insist and believe Kamanga and his colleagues are a let down themselves because they dont have any agenda. Yo do not get into doing something just because you dont like someone. How long have this guys been in OFFICE. Single out one thing they have achieved.

  6. Guys, here’s the problem I see with ama friendlies.

Zambia keeps trying to get countries like Ghana or Nigeria or Morocco for friendlies, and then these things fall through.

We should be using our COSAFA and smaller nations to build our schedules for the year. The way I see it; a friendly against Botswana or Lesotho is better than no friendlies at all. Countries in Europe know their friendly schedules 6 months to a year in advance. meanwhile our FA’s are trying to organize friendlies 2 weeks before the date.

Let’s go back to the idea of working with our neighbors like Malawi, Zimbabwe, Congo, Namibia…etc to get us where we need.

  7. sure mwebanesu no friendly up to now, we sick and tired of going to the drawing board when the agenda has been always “let’s try to build a team. You can’t pass the exam when you don’t do continueous assessments, never! FAZ work up and organize some friendlies or if you cant afford Zambia United comprising division one and the team in camp. Bazamfoot please help us to ask FAZ and get back to us the development. How far FAZ have gone so far in organizing the friendly. You are our centre of information
