The Zambia U20 national maintained their 100 percent start to the 2018 COSAFA U20 championships following a two nil win over the Democratic Republic of Congo U20 side. The junior Chipolopolo boys scored their goals through Benson Kolala and Prince Mumba in the first half and managed to keep another clean sheet.
Kolala opened the scores just 17 minutes into the first half. Six minutes later, Prince Mumba added a second, His third of the campaign to put Zambia in the driving seat.
Mumba was the key part of the U17 team that make up the majority of this new U-20 team as they were graduated after the 2017 U17 COSAFA championships.
He was the skipper of the side when they suffered an embarrassing early exit (group stage) at the 2017 COSAFA U20 youth Championships with only two goals scored.
Heading into the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers the Kabwe Warriors midfielder remained a pivotal member of the set up but got injured and missed a number of games and Zambia crashed out after a huge defeat at the hands of Burundi away.
Coming into this tournament, The Solwezi Academy product was stripped off the captains arm band and it was handed to the only remaining member of the all conquering ‘Bola na Lesa’ boys U20 class of 2017, Edward ‘Tiger’s Chilufya.
For some players that can demotivate them but not Mumba. He came from the bench in the first game and scored twice to help Zambia beat Malawi by two goals to nil and after that stellar performance Coach Charles Bwale gave him a starting spot in the second match.
He did not dissapoint again as he got on the end of a beautiful team goal to stay in the fore front together with Zimbabwean Delic Murimba in the race for the Golden boot.
Mumba was also voted as the man of the match in the second game confirming just how good his performance on the day was.
