Zambia U-20 take on Mozambique… Chance to avenge Chipolopolo loss

IT is said revenge is a dish best served cold and the Zambia U-20 National team will hope to do the same for the Chipolopolo home and away loss to Mozambique in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers when they take on Mozambique in their final group match of the 2018 Mopani U-20 Cosafa Championship.

And Zambia U-20 Coach Charles Bwale admitted there is a score to settle with the Young Mambas – at a time when memories of how the senior national team were humiliated by Mozambique were still fresh, subsequently missing out on the 2019 AFCON.

He said this in an interview in a post DR Congo U-20 match following the Junior Chipolopolo 2-0 win to book their place in the Mopani U-20 Cosafa Championship semifinals.

The Zambia U-20 scored through Benson Kolala in the 17th minute and Price Mumba 7 minutes later. The latter was then voted man of the match.

“If you look at the current environment which is prevailing in the country, the fans are disappointed of the performance of the senior national team. And definitely we have it at the backs of our minds that we need to bring smiles to our fans. We know definitely that we were humiliated by Mozambique home and away [In the 2018 AFCON qualifiers], so somehow we need to go into the final group match against the Young Mambas with two swords in our hands,” coach Charles Bwale said.

Meanwhile Bwale likened his lads to wine that matures with time. He said that they are now beginning to be unveiled out of their shells and predicted that they may reach the final.

“They are like new wine that matures with time. I said in my preamble when we played Malawi most of them were not all that confident. But going into today’s game maybe you saw they came out of their shell. Going forward, certainly you will see some improvements and they are going to the final.”
