Mulubwa targets WAFCON and continuing her goal scoring run

ZESCO Ndola Girls striker Penelope Mulubwa has set her sights on making coach Nora Elizabeth Häuptle’s squad for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Mulubwa says she has been working hard so that she can be among the players that will be picked for the WAFCON.

Mulubwa scored 35 goals to emerge as the top goalscorer of the 2024/2025 Eden University Women’s Super League helping ZESCO Ndola Girls to their maiden title.

“From the word go we planned to win the league. On winning the top goalscorer award , from pre-season I promised myself to work hard. I want to be among those going to the WAFCON. I have come out as a top goalscorer because I have been working hard,” Mulubwa told the ZamFoot Crew.

“I think we need to work on our defensive game , sometimes we tend to put ourselves under pressure during big games.”

Apart from the K300,000 cheque from Eden University, the League sponsors, the other reward of winning the Women’s Super League is getting a chance to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League through the COSAFA Qualifiers route.

Mulubwa says she wants to continue her goal scoring form even when the Ndola based outfit takes part on the regional showpiece for a chance to qualify for the lucrative continental competition.

“I want to continue scoring even when we go to the CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifiers. As a team we need to embrace teamwork and put God first,” Mulubwa said.

The 15th edition of the biennial African women’s football tournament will take place between 5th and 26th July in Morocco.
