ZESCO Ndola Girls have been crowned as the Champions of the 2024/2025 Eden University Women’s Super League following an impressive campaign.
The Ndola based outfit were crowned on Sunday afternoon at a colourful event at Sentinel Ground in Kalumbila following their final league game in which they beat Trident Queens 3-1.
Thandiwe Ndhlovu put the visitors in the lead only for Hosea Sebete to level matters almost immediately.
However Eneless Phiri put the Champions in the lead with a brilliant long range strike before skipper of the day Avell Chitundu could seal the win.
This has been a near perfect season for ZESCO Ndola Girls who finished it without a defeat winning 31 matches and drawing just 3.
After the match, Avell Chitundu led the Zegalicious Girls as she lifted the title , ending Green Buffaloes four year dominance.
Penelope Mulubwa had a chance break a four year rebord held by Orlando Pride forward Grace Chanda of the most goals scored in the Women’s Super League in a single season but failed to do so as she was not on the score sheet on the day.
In 2021, Chanda scored 35 goals in the league to walk away with the top goalscorer’s gong which has not been broken since.
Despite failing to break the record Mulubwa walks away as the top goalscorer of the 2024/2025 Eden University Women’s Super League season with 35 goals.
Elsewhere, runners up, Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club ended the season with a resounding 4-1 win over ZANACO Ladies.
Margaret Gondwe opened her goal account for the Zambia army sponsored outfit before Beatrice Fwamba and Memory Nthala could extend the lead.
Regina Chanda pulled one back from the penalty spot only for Agnes Phiri to restore Buffaloes lead.
In Choma, Lungowe Namasiku scored the only goal of the game as Nchanga Rangers Queens saw off Choma Warriors 1-0.
Indeni thrashed ZISD 4-1 while YASA Queens saw off Play It Forward 2-0 with goals from Christine Nyirongo and Margaret Chisenga.
Zambia U17 Women’s National Team skipper Mercy Chipasula was on target as Kamfisa Police Blue Eagles beat Nkana Queens 4-0.
Nkwazi Queens beat Elite Ladies 2-1 to survive relegation while Red Arrows edged Green Eagles 1-0.
At Shamuel Ground, Luyando Foundation Girls sent Police Dove Queens to the National Division One with a 1-0 scoreline courtesy of a Regina Kayamboma penalty.
