Moses Sichone talks crucial DR Congo showdown…Hints on final being the target

Chipolopolo assistant coach Moses Sichone believes the Chipolopolo Boys are prepared for tomorrow’s TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024 campaign opener against DR Congo.

DR Congo opened their 2024 campaign with a 1–0 defeat to co-hosts Kenya and Sichone believes they will seriously be looking for a win against Zambia but the team has prepared well for the encounter.

The Leopards are winless in five CHAN matches three losses and two draws with their last win came against Niger in 2020

“I think it’s a crucial game , but looking at the training sessions we have had since we arrived, the guys look to be prepared and looking forward to it,” he said.

“We know that after losing the first match, they are preparing to win the game against us, this is a message that everyone knows. We are preparing well and it’s going to be an interesting game and we are looking forward to it.”

Sichone says what’s most important is that everyone knows why they are in East Africa and looking to better Zambia’s record at the tournament.

“It’s always been like a fight every time we play DR Congo, they are like our brothers but we are looking forward to the game,” Sichone said.

“For us the most important thing is to know why we are here. The best we have achieved at CHAN is finishing third. I am sure this time around, every player is geared to the task and looking forward to do better and maybe at the end of the tournament we reach the final.”

Their only previous encounter came in the semi-finals of the 2009 edition, where DR Congo secured a 2–1 win in Abidjan thanks to early goals from Serge Senge and Alain Kaluyituka. Zambia pulled one back late through Given Singuluma but could not force extra time.

Zambia opens its CHAN account tomorrow with a Group A tussle against DR Congo at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi at 15h00 CAT.

  1. If anyone wants to look at what’s wrong with the “Big Defence” corporate monolith of the US defence industry this is it. Anduril are fairly new, very ambitious fast footed and highly innovative. In other words what NA, McDonald Douglas, Convair were like before they merged into the Companies they are today.
Anduril are busily running rings round them and aren’t even a listed company yet (😞
