Zambian export to Austria Enock Mwepu may soon become an irreplaceable member of coach Marco Rose’s Redbull Salzburg. This is after Malian midfielder Amadou Haidara made his switch to the Germany Bundesliga with RB Liezpig.
Haidara has penned a five year deal with Salzburg’s sister club keeping him in the Bundesliga till 2023.
Mwepu inked a five-year deal in June 2017 and was loaned out to Salzburg’s feeder club FC Liefering who pla in Austria’s second tier.
The deal came after his breath taking performances for the Zambia U20 national team that won the 2017 U20 AFCON end reached the quarter finals of the World Cup
The former Kafue Celtic and Power dynamos player said it was a dream come true to move to Europe after penning his deal.
“I’m so happy that my dream of playing in Europe has become a reality. I know this league will give me experience and it will help me in so many ways,” Mwepu told BBC Africa.
“The tempo of my game will definitely go up and most importantly, I will have game time,” he added.
The Computer spent less than a year with the junior side after he quickly settled in and become a key member of the team. Mwepu was soon promoted to the senior side, Redbull Salzburg.
He however had to fight for a place with the likes of Amadou Haidara but still used to and still makes a number of appearances though full ninety minute shifts week in week out.
With the derpature of Haidara, Marco Rose’s Salzburg has a a vacuum which Mwepu can easily fill if he continues to work hard. He still has to fight off competition from Zlatko Junuzovic and Xavier Schlager.
