EX-Zambia defender and 1994 AFCON silver medalist Mordon Malitoli has described Sunday’s rioting by Nkana supporters during their Kitwe derby game against Power Dynamos as shameful and madness.
Nkana fans vandalised Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola ripping up the bucket seats in the stands and using them as missiles after the 90th minute when referee Hillary Hambaba awarded Power a penalty.
Nkana were leading one-nil at that point through a 64th minute Jacob Ngulube headed goal.
The game was paused for 10 minutes as Nkana fans rioted in the stands and when normalcy was restored, Brian Masanyinga converted Power’s penalty to see the derby finish 1-1.
Malitoli, a former Nkana defender, said in an interview with Revelation Sports in Kitwe yesterday, that football was there to be enjoyed and not an opportunity to exhibit madness.
